Just if you don't need to buy one immediately you can find the same thing for 3-4 grand less than that one.

Are you in Georgia (that Autotrader posting is a bit north of where I live)? A lot of the dealers in metro Atlanta are asking pretty high prices and not budging much from what I can tell. Some of the dealers I test drove at as far back as March still haven't sold the very cars I tested because they don't want to lower their prices. I managed to get a MY2006 BB w/ 36k miles for 19k (bluebooked at about 21k) back in April, mostly highway miles with only a few tiny door dings, and that's the best deal I managed within 50 miles. Some of the other markets seem to fare a lot better (like FL) but I wasn't willing to travel too far. You might fare better if you're willing to make a drive to get a car.

Yes, I live just south of Atlanta in McDonough. I actually am looking as far as 100 miles out, and I'm not having the best luck. For the right price, I'm willing to drive well over 250 miles, I just don't want to drive that far only to find out the car was not all it was said to be. The dealership that had the first S2000 I looked at also had 5 other S2000's sitting on the lot that appeared to have been sitting for quite some time. The dealership didn't seem to concerned about selling them either.

Extending the search to 200 miles.

Yeah that is exactly why I just ended up buying local anyway after I found a deal I was satisfied enough with. Didn't want to get caught up driving a while to see a car and then not having it work out. If you stick with local, you'll probably end up waiting a couple of months and searching until something pops up. I'd been looking at S2Ks in Atlanta since January before I found mine in April.

dude. seriously?
such a bad example.
don't just go onto ebay and look for the lowest price car. that clearly is not giving a representative value of what the s2000 market is doing.
i'd be willing to bet $100 that thing has been wrapped around a tree. or maybe hit the barrier at one of the many track days it was driven. owner got rid of it. some idiot bought it cheap, cheaply fixed it and is now for sale for some idiot, i mean sucker on ebay.
look at hood and alignment (or lack thereof).
look at crappy rims. nobody with a cr would do that. some douche in a body shop ordered the cheapest rims they could find to replace the cracked rims from the accident.
buying a used car strictly on price is not a good thing to do. otherwise you might be a trashed CR. but overall, the car you're looking at is overpriced.
my 05 with 38k miles was $16,800. original owner, never any paintwork. all records.
with lower milage, maybe $18,000 would be reasonable.

Wheels do look horrible. Looks like the hood is popped open but maybe not and in that case yeah bad alignment. But anyways I know being an owner myself i wish the value was better but if you want a good deal and are not dumb about the purchase you can buy one for considerably less than most people especially on this forum try to sell theirs for.
most 06's on ebay which are usually from dealerships are at or under 20 grand with the same or less miles than the op found for an '05. Still not the best deal but 20 grand for an '05 with 26K on it is not a good deal.

Extending the search 100 more miles only brought in a few more, mostly with high miles. I think I'll play the waiting game until someone drops their price, or a new one pops up. I called about the red one for $19,687, they said a retired guy traded it in.

Already have made steps to buy one, just sold my intercooler and extra turbo.

Try and work them down on that one. It is not a very in demand car and it will most likely sit there for a while. Especially at that price.
Most dealers really need to sell cars these days so they might be pretty negotiable with the price.
