Upgrading to a '02 is probably more than a $3000 depreciation cost for most - especially if you are trading. Most dealers are not giving any more than $24-25k for most 00 and 01 cars. You can keep doing this year after year - there will always be improvements. Your better bet is to wait till there is a used '02.

While the dealer may offer $24K - $25K, a private sale can get you closer to $28-29K

so how did they do it? new frame? new latches? i've heard talks about new motors for the frame, or just a new soft-top + window?

also... did you see the video? i wonder if they hooked it up to an alarm remote to operate the top, unless some guy is hiding in the car, it also looked like the top came to a complete close without manually latching it, but i can't tell, the video was bad quality, anyhow, that would be dope

they didn't say anything about the process: it's a shop, it's not going to share that over the net.

Interesting conversion. Don't think I'd get it done for $2K though. Did they use the Honda glass, or was it custom made for them?? I don't have the kanji fonts loaded into my system so I can't read any of the pages.

bshigeta, in the video, I bet the guy in the car is just a really short Japanese person that you can't see over the doorsill

well, according to that page, it fits. however, they made no mention of the procedure (they're charging for this conversion, i don't think they want to give away their secrets, if there are any).

since many of us do not speak nor read japanese, i went to babelfish.altavista.com and pasted in the text.. this is what i came up with.. some of it doesnt make any sense at all, but you can sorta understand what theyre trying to say..

translation ala babel fish:

1. Photograph of normal time
2. After being sold, the one which is damaged now when already it enters 3rd year, the ria cleanliness pain by mischievously is not one or the heart which it begins you are, probably will be. You think such a time " if re-covering repair of the top is done, the M/C front car owner that we would like to re-cover in the glass screen top after the M/C ", it is many. But, the ria cleanliness to be modified by long-awaited glass by minor change, furthermore the color (the blue) was added, but because in prior-term type and latter-term type top frame form and manner of operation differ, you cannot re-cover with only the top, cannot become exchange every of frame, to become serious expense you cannot stay either the owner who abandons the re-covering obtaining to the glass top after the M/C, probably will be. At this corporation, it utilized the experience which manages the long time opencar, improved the top frame of prior-term type, re-covered in the glass top after the M/C and Hari of operation and the top which are similar to latter-term type, the using selfishness, it made possible. When you compare to the top and frame exchange, half price being soon, it starts " the re-covering service of the top ". As for new model top re-covering, at payment included XXYEN 158, 000. - (Classified by consumer tax) in case of heat wave installation, + 18, 000. - (Classified by consumer tax) with it becomes. * Job time approximately 6 hours * main point reservation (the TEL or the E-mail) * there is a top 2 color, (black and the blue)
3. Photograph after the completing (as for video picture at time of top opening after the completing this way)

Well, I happened to be at my local Honda dealer today to get a rear tail light bulb, of all things, and noticed a nice new yellow S2K on the showroom floor. The first thing I noticed was the glass rear window with the built in defroster...very nice. Then I checked out the sticker price...yikes! Get a load of this; they called it a "custom S2000" or some such nonsense, but the list of options, chrome wheels, front air-dam, side skirts, rear spoiler added up to nearly $8k! Now, that wasn't the worst of it. They listed a "market adjustment" of $10k for a grand total of over $50k! They must have known I knew better, since none of the salesman would give me the time of day, but I was just floored. Now, this dealer is in Scottsdale, AZ so the nickname of Snottsdale is for a reason. I guess the positive side of this is that it should continue to push the resale of our S2k's up.

Sorry for the long note, but I immediately went into the parts department and priced the new top with the glass rear window. He gave me a price under $1200, but he had no indication as to it's fitment on a '00 or '01 model. He did mention, however, that the frame is a different part number than the previous years, so a new frame may need to be purchased, as well. The frame alone was over $1300, so I would really like to know if that '02 top will fit on a '00 car. He was going to look into for me and let me know what he finds out, so I'll post his response when and if I here back from him.
