Personally, i say looks, but i'm on a decently tight budget. Looks don't require much maintence, don't void warranties, don't reduce the life of the car, and provide an even higher level of "uniqueness" But, cars are made to be driven, so moderate performance mods should be done, but i'd be more apt to put wheels, exhaust, hood, lip, spoiler, and vafc before i'd SC it. Just me, what about the rest of ya. Ryan ITV, your not entitled to an answer.........!!! Bastard!
In my humble opinion the S2000 is so highly optimized that significant improvement of performance can not be done on a "decently tight budget". Most add-ons really don't change performance so you'd notice, and some probably hurts it. I'd just leave that alone, with a possible exception to lowering the suspension a bit. Not cheep though.
In the looks department a lot comes down to personal preference - I personally don't like plastic add-ons - and for me the single biggest looks item is a set of new wheels, 17" or 18".
Most satisfying mod is probably better sound, primarily inside with new speakers and head unit, but perhaps also outside with louder exhaust if that's your thing.
Edit: Hehe. Sorry, I didn't read your signature before hitting the reply button. Been there, done that, I see.
Yea, been there, done that, just looking for opinions while i work the grave shift I agree, when it comes to the S, if you can't get a supercharger, then CAI, VAFC, springs and shocks are the way to go. all told thats less than 1500$ and it would be a descent bump in performance with the right combo of parts. Ah well, i've got my plans!
Engine performance mods are for those who care about fractions of a second at the expense of warranty coverage. I've got none.
Suspension mods are for those who drive at the limits. I probably never will, but an X brace and a shock tower brace are easy, cheap, safe and can't hurt. Well, some say an X brace might hurt the crush zone in a head on collision, but I doubt it.
Sound mods are for personal preference satisfaction. I'd never done sound mods before so I'm "pleased with myself" for adding new head, new front speakers, new front speaker wires, Lucid rear speakers and finally a sub. Having all that done, I can still return to stock.
Body mods are for styling except for the very few of us who take the car to the track. They're like pin stripes, vinyl roofs, white wall tires, hood ornaments, and window curtains: things that do nothing, pass into popularity, pass out of popularity, but only differentiate us without improving us. They're kind of like tattoos for our cars. If I thought any body mod improved the appearance, I'd get the mod, but I don't.
Rick's leather interior mods cover Honda's cheap carpet and change the "feel of luxury." They don't cost much, don't do much, but are satisfying.
When I look at the two cars I would "lust after," mods play no part in my lust. Also, my '93 Prelude VTEC is stock and classic. I feel the same about my S2000.
To put it to the extremes, I rather have a 8 second 0-60 and 18second quarter mile porsche 911 than a 4 second 0-60 and 9 second quarter mile civic hatchback.

I agree. Generally, more people appreciate the looks rather than caring about what you did under the hood.
In terms of gain for the investment, with this car you can do more with attention to cosmetic details that Honda overlooked (for reasons of economy) than you can with performance modifications.
