Default Loose Change Sound

For a long time I've gotten this weird loose change metallic sound whenever I close either door or the trunk lid. It's hard to tell exactly where it's coming from. It's intermittent, comes and goes. (I guess that's redundant.) Of course, every time I show my mechanic, it goes away and he just shrugs his shoulders. Any ideas?

$10 bucks says it's the spare tire. There is a spin screw that holds down the tire and many come from the factory loose... happened with mine and a buddy's of mine. Pop out the spare tire cover and make sure that thing is tightened down...

Thanks, but I've been there already. I had a brand new OEM S02 tire shred on me on the freeway last month. I picked up a large piece of metal. I had to use the spare tire and tightened the lock myself when I returned that little donut to the trunk.

$20 bucks says it's that bag of miscellaneus bag of nuts and bolts (i.e. for the front license plate etc.) you'll find under the panel in the trunk center.

$40 bucks says the s2k doesn't have a glove compartment.

Try looking between / under the seats, the plastic interior moulding pieces, the seat belt buckle, and the convertible top locks. Oh, and look in the cup holder, middle, and secret compartment. Also, check to see if the middle and secret compartment doors are loose.

Next?

I had the same problem after the dealership replaced my drivers side window motor assembly the second time. It turned out it was the entire motor they had inadvertantly not bolted down. If you have had this "service" done yet, you might want to look into that.

DJ Cube-

Thanks, but $50 says I tried all those things already. The damn noise is driving me nuts, particularly the part about it being evil enough to go away whenever my mechanic is within earshot.
