My strikers are slightly worn, and I basically did the same thing. I found some clear plastic tubing at the hardware store, cut it and covered the hooks. The plastic is seriously tough, but just flexible enough to slide over the hooks... and you don't even notice it. Far less wind noise now.

Of course, new strikers and the washer fix (thanks for posting that Gotpepsi) are both better permanent solutions.

I had the dealer replace the strikers and it made no difference.
My problems started when I unintentionally drove the car with the top unlocked but still up. Drove several minutes until I could pull over to lock it. Previously, I had unlocked the top, tried to start, and battery was dead. Forgot to lock the top back up before jumping the battery and taking off. Duhhhh!!
