You can go the high $$$ route with coilovers, anything decent is $1000 +++;would be overkill,if it's for streets only,IMO.
My $.02:I went with KG/mm Supersport progressive springs,and Koni shocks,on lower perches;total drop =about 1" drop.Good enough for the street,and an occasional auto-X,IMO.

i got a suspension question too since the search is down.
i am at a cross where i want to part with my current setup. i am looking into the bilstein pss9 or the h&r coilovers from the marketplace.
the bilstein's used to be much cheaper, and i should have gotten them then, but i slept on it. but recently i read in a previous suspension thread that h&r and bilstein work together to make the coilovers. is this true.
what are the differences between the two other than about $500-600?
only thing that stuck out was the softer rear rate on the bilstein.
thanks.

The PSS9 is adjustable for compression/rebound. The H&Rs do not have adjustable damping. The H&R coils do use dampers made by Bilstein.
There was a huge run on Bilstein PSS9 coils earlier this year. They were nationally backordered and now they're in short supply although available sporadically. Currently they're out of stock again. Pricing skyrocketed after stateside stock was sold out probably due to exchange rates and the rising price of fuel/transportation costs. Even local shipping from FedEx/UPS is much higher than it was 6 months ago.

I'm going to jump in here since its pretty much my same case. I do mostly street driving very enthusiastically, and maybe some weekend autocrossing. My only concern is the drilling you need to do with the Koni's and then the position of the axles will be altered therefore causing some future damage to the boots. Does anyone know if the axle spacers sold by J's are any good or recommenable? What exactly is the drilling needed to be done when installing Koni's? Thank you for any advice or help in advance.
