Like the Mod, considering trying it. Is it really 4 hours of work? or 1 hour of wrenching/leather fiitting w/3 hours of JB weld drying time?

Funny--I was looking for this info not because I'm a tall guy like the rest of you, but because I find the front of the seat cushion bugs my hamstrings. I'm about 5'8" but would like the seat bottom tipped down in front just a tad--an inch max.

I was reading this thread and thought maybe just drilling the front side mounting holes and re-mounting them lower would do the trick.

Anyone try this?>

i'm 6'6" and while i can drive the S2k in stock form, i think this would help greatly. My question is... would Sparco Evo2 seats fit? maybe Recaro Pole Positions? I have a 36" waist that isn't to happy in the SPG or Evo seat...

I imagine that adding a Sparco Ring steering wheel and removing the factory door pull would free up enough room to make an S pretty darn comfy...

Anyone in MD do this yet? I am curious how this slight lowering would effect the feel for a guy my size

Any long term reports on this modification?

Sideways, I don't know what you want to know but the seat is a seat that I sit on every day--not much change. I had mine done in May 2002, so it was over 2 years now. The leather shows some wear and cracks but I don't think that would be any different from other driver seats that were used every day. I can't imagine that I could have lived this long without this mod done while driving my s2k every day. I just don't think about this mod other than that I am glad that I have done it. If you are thinking about doing this mod, I would recommend it strongly. No long-term problems.

If you are willing to use an aftermarket seat, you can achieve more than 3 inches of additional headroom by using a mount that will place the seat between the rails closest to the floor pan with out dragging.

The best combination I have found is the TAITEC Sliding Seat Rail and Recaro SPG or Sparco REV seat. You can find both here:

I had Bob at Mountain View Auto Interiors drop the seat for me this morning. He claimed that pounding the rear seat mount wasn't going to lower the seat any. Instead, he drilled out the rivets on the brackets at the back, and re-riveted the brackets higher up on the pan, so that the bottom of the pan now skims the carpet. He also reshaped the bottom of the pan slightly and cut out about 2 inches of the foam with a foam saw -- basically all the foam that was in the pan dimple. He also rewelded the front attachment point rather than using JB weld, which he didn't seem to think highly of.

I'm 6'3", and the car is a 2002 MY. My head no longer rubs against the roof, and I can now see traffic lights without ducking my head around, and best of all... I can see the tach! The side bolsters around my hips are a big tighter, since I'm farther down in the seat, so I'm thinking of having those trimmed a little, but I'll wait to see how my butt and the seat get to know each other over the next few days.

The job was fairly well done, and they charged me 5.

If I were to do it again (i.e. if you are thinking of doing this mod), I'd suggest:
- taking out a small amount of foam on the side bolsters. Maybe just 1 cm.
- replacing the foam taken from the pan dimple with much lighter, more compressible foam.
- doing this mod sooner! I've been driving the car for 6 months like it was... I wish I'd done this in January!
Has anyone found someone in SoCal that professionally does this? I'm not very tempted to spend $800+ on a new seat and rails just to lower my seat 2". Any other recommendations?

Does lowering the seat bottom alter the height of the seat back?

No, the back stays the same. I did this mod a while back, but was not satisfied with the results (I'm 6'3" and 220 lbs.). I then purchased from SOS a pair of Sparco Rev seats with the Taitec sliders. They turned out great. I now sit much lower and have about 3 inches more leg room. Seats are a lot more comfortable too.

How much lower is the SOS setup vs. the modification? I did the modification and could still use 2 more inches of a drop but do not want to spend the $$ if it is not significant.
