I have a MY2002. It comes with a alum. knob wrapped in leather. This oem knob is heavier than my Muz knob.

For the summer, I re-installed my oem knob so I don't burn my hand. I did notice that with the oem (heavier knob) the shifts are definitely smoother. Engagement from one gear to the next happens with less effort. Is it as fun as the Muz? No way! I kinda feel like I'm shifting a school bus' gears (maybe not that bad) The shorter throw is what I prefer as well as the spherical knob to grip.

I did read somewhere that a heavier knob will help shift momentum. My experience confirms this.

A titanium knob would be heavier than alum. and heard it doesn't heat up as much as alum.

By the way, do not get a Momo knob. Most of them are universal and a bitch to fit on. Get a Muz! Perfect fit and look. Read my comments above.

Titanium heavier?

Not to doubt you Simon but perhaps the easier shifting was due to the change of temp outside? Or perhaps because you have more leverage?

Either way its so much sweeter with Muz's
