the maintenance light comes on xxxx amount of miles after it was last reset. it does NOT RESET when you change your oil. it has to be reset per the instructions in the manual!!

also, changing mobil 1 after only 3000 miles is a waste of time, money, and resources.

 

Unless something goes wrong with your engine and you need to make a warranty claim. The dealer won't care what kind of oil you have in there. They only care that you changed it at the "required" interval based on the schedule that pertains to your car. If you've left the oil in beyond the change interval and something goes wrong, they can and most likely will deny coverage if you can't prove you kept up with the schedule.
