i change mine too often to change it every time (just think about it). and the oil change cycle you are following is still for conventional oil. i still change the filter at 5,000 (actually less) but i change the oil every 2,500 (give or take). so i don't see how i would harm anything.

No harm claimed, other than to your wallet.
I just don't see the point of changing oil that often.
I also admit I don't crasp the logic behind wanting to change it that often, but not caring to change it all. Of being willing to expend the effort, and the cash, on new oil, but not on the oil filter.
