Default "Maintenence Required" Warning Light

This began happening about 5 days ago... Each time I start my car, the "Maintenence Required" light on the dash will flash for about 10 seconds, and then go out. I never noticed this before. I only have about 13,2xx miles on my car, and as far as I know, unless I missed something, all of the required maintenence on my car is current. I called my service tech the other day, and he told me to turn the key over so that all of the lights on the dash are lit up, but the engine is not turned on, and hold down the "Trip" button for 30 seconds and that should reset all of those warning lights. He also told me that I wasn't due for any service. I followed his instructions, but the same thing is still taking place every time I start the car.

Anyone ever heard of this? If so, what is the cause, and what steps shoud I be taking? PLEASE advice. Thank you!!

Brian

Try the ODO button trick again -- but first, follow the instructions in your owner's manual. They may be more precise than those from your service tech (iirc, you should be pressing the 'trip' button down WHILE you turn the key from 'off' to 'on', then keep pressing until the warning light switches off).

Good Luck.

That pesky owner's manual really contains a lot of great information. Notyou has it right. Hold the trip odometer reset button while turning on the key. Wait until the "maintenance required" light stops flashing and then release the button. I bought my s2k used and the dealer that did the oil change apparently did not know about resetting the maintenance required light. The light started flashing a few hundred miles later. The reset did the trick.

Hi:
Don't confuse the maintenance required light, and the check engine light. They are separate beasts. The maintenance required light is just tied to the odometer to let you know when you should take the car in for service.
