I remember reading a whole analysis of why the penzoil synchromesh is not good for the tranny. I use the GM synchromesh friction modified (it makes a big difference but seems to break down quicker).....I think some people think that the penzoil one is just a re branded version of that....its not. But the supposedly the new honda MTF is really good also, thats what I plan on using for the next tranny fluid swap.
Do you have any references, by chance? I tried doing a bit of research, but everything seemed to come back that it is all, in fact, the same. Example: http://www.stealth316.com/2-pennzoil-synchromesh.htm

According to this little article, Quaker State Synchromesh, Pennzoil Synchromesh, Texaco Synchromesh, GM Synchromesh and AC Delco Synchromesh are all the same. I couldn't find anything other than message board speculation that it was not the same.

I'm not doubting you because often times I find myself in the position of thinking back and reading or hearing things that are contrary to one thing or another. In this case, I'm just curious as to how Pennzoil Synchromesh might actually be bad for my transmission.

If anyone else has info, please feel free to chime in.

Man whats up with all the synthetic....what happened to good'ol conventional? I figure if the oil is going to get dirty anyways might as well change it out every ~3,000 miles.
I agree. If you do regular oil changes and do not live in a cold climate it is just a big waste of money.

I disagree tests show greater protection in synthetics.

engine oil: royal purple 10w30
engine oil filter: k&n 1004/ mobil one 104
engine air filter: k&n replacement of oem
transmission: royal purple synchromax
differential: royal purple 75w90
carbin filter: oem or purelator at pepboys/advanceautoparts

penzoil synchromesh fluid was in my transmission for about 3k miles, it was ok but I find out royal purple synchromax is better. GM synthetic synchromesh probably is better than penzoil although I have not use it. I purchase 2qts of the new honda manual fluid, will try it next year. Honda said to change transmission fluid at 30k or 60k miles. I would not let it stays in my tranny that long. I think it is better to change it anually along with differential with the exception of after a track day. The only thing it hurts is your wallet by changing fluids often but it is cheap insurance.
