S2000 Talk Discussions related to the S2000, its ownership and enthusiasm for it.

Make sense to sell current s2000 for a newer one?

I can see this both ways. If you're thinking about keeping it for a long, long time, and you're only going to drive it 5k miles per year, I can understand wanting to step into a newer model. You could keep it for the next 15 years, or maybe the rest of your life. If that's the case, it could almost be looked at as an investment. The extra 8-9k now won't seem like a big deal 20 years from now and you'll be happy that you started with a fresher car.

However, if you're just thinking that you'll trade into something else 4 years from now, just skip a step and keep your car.

Yup I have a TSX as a daily so I don't need to rush it.

I'm planning on shopping around this winter when prices are low, find the perfect s2000, put a down payment and borrow the rest from my credit union (2.99% APR on used cars) then sell my s2000 in spring when prices/demands rise and pay off the newer s2000.

Gives me time to find the "perfect" s2000, and I can take advantage of the seasonal price fluctuations in both buying and selling. Also, I'd have both s2000s in my possession for a few months, so I can take my time swapping my aftermarket parts over.
I like your plans as it will be worth it in the end, when the newer S is in your garage and the older one is being driven off by its new owner.....
I went from MY00 to an MY06, haven't looked back.....
If a 07+ GPW came up that was above excellent, like my SS is then I'd be considering swapping, via keeping my mods and changing over like you.

Its always better to have a low mileage car, and since your S has 90,000 on it, I would call that high, then yes, get one with lower mileage. And newer is better too.

get a lower model one and just park it and leave it for 15 yrs. Keep your other s and drive it into the ground.

I think there are rarely situations where constantly upgrading to a newer model of the same car makes financial sense. Also every time you change cars to a newer used car you run the risk of getting a lemon or a car that has hidden engine or other major problems that aren't apparent until it's too late.

This is somewhat of an opinion but used car dealers make their money off people who continuously trade or buy up to a newer car and loose large amounts of money on their old car.

Now if you are able to sell it yourself and then buy a good used one from a private seller in cash...then I would say it's a viable option but there will be risks on that newer used car.
yeah but he wants an s2k with like olny 25k or less, how many problems do you think are gonna be there at so low miles? it pretty new still not a lot can happen in 25k or maybe it can?

The first owner could have mis-shifted at 3,000 miles and there could be low compression on a cylinder or two, you never know.

If I do upgrade, I'm going to definitely do a compression test on any car which I'm considering buying. I've heard too many horror stories about misshifts, etc

There's nothing else like it. Only thing similar is the Elise, but they are more $$$, and do have their negatives.
