As someone who experienced pinch tears to the OEM top ($$$), I am certain I would have noticed the "bind" if the top were manual instead of power, and done something about it before experiencing the tears. Pretty sure I was raising and lowering the top in my old Miata in under six seconds.

That said, with my 5'2" wife now DD'ing the S2000, I think a manual top would be more of a challenge for her (hmm, she stole the Miata away from me all the time, so...?)

How much does the Miata top weigh? Either way, the S2000 is such a small car and doesn’t need a motorized top. My 65 year old, retired neighbor drops his Miata top one handed, daily. If someone finds the manual Miata top to be too much of a physical exercise, I can only imagine what it’s like eating a bowl of cereal...

I do not recall anyone in this thread, or any similar threads, saying the top would be too taxing to put up or down if it were manual.

That isn't what convenient means.

Euro_ricer, I'm wondering if you might have better luck obtaining an answer to this question over in the "S2000 Under the Hood" subforum.

The Miata top assembly weighs ~40lbs. Though the Honda design is pretty much the same as the NA Miata, the S2000 is still larger overall. What is surprising is the NA Miata hardtop weighs more than the S2000 hardtop even though it is smaller.

Coming from a del Sol with a manual roof, wich i liked and never bothered me, i really enjoy the total luxury of the electric top on the S2000.
But i personally would not have a problem if the S2000 roof would be manually operated.
