Speed limit is 80 on some rural interstates here in Texas.

But then you can drive for 2 days and still be in Texas so we need some speed relief.

Texas isn't like some of those itty bitty NE states. We have towns bigger than those states!!

the best example i can think of is here in calif...speed limit is 65, when safe i do 75 plus, on highway 5 limit is 70 i do over 85 when safe, usually 80ish when crowded or when things slow down.

I wish I could go fast, but I have terrible luck. I could seriously count with one hand the number of times I've done 10mph over the speed limit...and I've gotten two speeding tickets. I'm a police magnet :-( A friend got a speeding ticket driving between wichita falls and dallas in texas two months ago for 5mph over the speed limit. So I keep it under five now :-(

A couple of cops have told me you're safe under 10, but there's always an @$$ out there.

That's crazy. Did he do something to piss the cop off? The Cops here are great. They rarely set speed traps or give tickets during rush hour. And if you're polite, they usually give a warning. The last 3 times I've been pulled over I've gotten a lecture and a nothing else. I guess I'm lucky I live in an area where the police dept doesn't rely on tickets for funding.

Maybe the cops in Texas have quotas to meet or need to write tickets to fill their gas tanks.

I guess it depends on if he passed through a trap or was just rude. When im pulled for speeding and its not by a trap or in the heart of tampa, i usually alwasy get let off just by being polite and not agruing, but around the college or in the city, you will get a ticket for blinking and breathing!

I feel immune at 10 over, a touch nervous at up to 20 over and paranoid anything 20+ over. I'll go 100+ but, won't stay there long. It's a night in jail minimum here in VA. My wife's already told me she's not bailing me out.

The Greenway's got some nice spots where you know there aren't any cops. Only 2 of them patrol it so, if you can place them, you're set for the rest of the trip.

Depends...it's easier when you know the area. I do 85 in a 55 every morning on I-95, but there are other roads where the revenue collectors are out all the time and you can't do that.
