My front seals melted at the Thunderhill event Aug 1st. Was using the R4S pads.

Hmmmm... Interesting.

I'm using Hawk Blues too, although I haven't experienced this. I'll double check to be sure. Just wondering which Hawk Blues are you using, custom or HB113s?

Like Mikey said, higher Cf, higher temps.

Hey Mikey, I may need those brake ducts after all. Have fun at Jefferson!

BBSpoon,

I was using the HB113's. It does make sense for the dust seals to be vulnerable, since they don't even get the benefit of being cooled by the brake fluid. I'll see if I can get some ducting in there between now and my next track day.

Hey BBSpoon, Jefferson will be fun, I'm sure I'll get a real workout. BTW, I just bought some Carbotech Panther Plus pads, but I'm not going to install them until the VIR event in October.

King Motorsports has been promising a full front ducting kit for a few months now. They've been busy all summer with racing commitments so I don't know if the ducts are ready yet.

As they seem to be the only vendor offering a full kit that ducts directly to the eye of the rotor, you might want to give them a call if you're going to duct. Ultimate Lurker was testing some ductless vents (no cutting required), but I don't know when/if they'll be available.

I used to burn the dust boots off my SVO Mustang so often that I stopped replacing them.

That car was used for SCCA competition and it really got some abuse at times. I never had a problem with the caliper fluid seals though, they may have been insulated from some of the heat because I was using phenolic pistons. Overall the brakes just were not up to the task, just like the S2K, but I was limited by the rulebook. If you're just doing track days then a brake upgrade
should be a top priority

The S2K just needs larger rotors (much larger) and maybe bigger calipers. From the previous post I think help is on the way.

Again, the price quoted is a target price.. I will be using billet light weight 4 pot calipers. I am told there will be absolutely no fade and will work with the OEM wheels and is ABS safe!!!

I actually found that the S2K's brakes worked very well with the Hawk Blues and ATE Superblue brake fluid. I got no fade and decent stops with what was apparently a "hard enough on the brakes" track to melt the seals. Don't get me wrong, more brakes are always better, but I would have needed more tire first before I could have used more brakes.

Your pressures are too high. Drop them a bit and your grip will get better after a few laps, not worse.

We have taken brake bias into consideration. The problem with brake bias is when you upgrade all four corners of the car. As for a simple front brake upgrade, there is not much bias difference.

Just less fade and lower track times.
