[QUOTE=Cheese and Onion,Apr 5 2009, 04:13 PM] Autocar UK perspective on the '08 update S2000:

This is an expensive toy for what it is, and never mind those 237 yelling horses. Apart from vivid performance - and that

I'll admit it...my car's junk and my car's ugly...but I've driven a totally strange Miata in the hills in California and been mid-pack with a bunch of S2000's, so I don't think power is the deciding factor...

I'd actually put my 1.6L Miata up against the average S2000 owner (street or track)...

I took 150 km/h corners on track faster in my lowered '91 MX5 than I do in my stock '99 S2000 right now, but don't tell anyone OK But to be fair I did do over a dozen track days in the MX5 and only one so far in the S2000, so let's give it time. Besides, it was overall faster around that track than the MX5 right away, even with a pathetically cautious cornering speed... twice the power will do that down the straights...

why is it not ok to like and respect the miata? it is far more fun for the money than my honda, but i prefer the honda in every way...and the honda is fun, the money is the only place the miata beats the S2000 and we can thank Mazda for rekindling the roadster craze...bottom line, miata better bang for the buck car, can be modded cause it needs to be to keep up with the honda right out of the box...having owned both i say this with experience as my credential.

Is the miata more fun, no, buy the miata over the S2000, not me. The miata is a respectible car in so many ways.

I owned two Miatas (Miatae?), a first generation 1990 and a second generation 1999. They are fun, reliable cars, no doubt about it, and I loved them both. Like others have said, there is no "right" or "wrong", it's a question of what you like.

I looked at the current Miata and test drove it several times. But, after driving the S2000, the Miata somehow felt agricultural. The Miata is still a fun car and a great sports car - it's a gem - but it's just not as much of a hard-core driver's car as the S2000.

If you're primarily going to be using it as a daily driver, and long weekend trips with your significant other, and if comfort is important, go for the Miata. If pure performance, agility, race-car stiffness and flingability are more important to you (at the expense of some comfort), go for the S2000.

Many more Miatas are sold than the S2000. More people want an "all around" car rather than a no-compromises sports car. If it's going to be your only car, the Miata will probably serve you better, and you won't regret it. If you have a "practical" daily driver, the S2000 will be more pure fun, and you'd probably regret not getting it.

Either way, you can't go wrong with either of these cars.

I had a 97 miata. It was fun but was underpowered. S2000 is much more fun to drive.

Lets just be thankful the S2000 ended before a next generation Mazdaspeed Miata came out. The Miata is an amazing car, and has been for almost 20 years now.

If they slap that 2.3 DISI engine from the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 in it, it's gonna be a guaranteed winner. If there's any chance I could get rid of my S2000, that would be the car. A 2010 faclifted retractable hard top 250+hp 260+ torque Miata. Think about it.

Drove an older early 90s Miata back in the day, and loved it. Test drove a leftover 05 Mazdaspeed Miata, and it was fantasticly fun, but I stuck with the S. I'd imagine the next Mazdaspeed Miata is gonna be an incredible machine, and could cause severe envy by some S2K owners.

Don't hate, appreciate!!
