Day 7

The aim today was to finish priming the interior and grinding away at the front sub frame to get it ready for paint.

I start off with another few coats of gloss black enamel on the trans mount and tow hook:

Then I move on to cleaning up the front sub frame:

Meanwhile some cockpit priming was going on:

Once the sub frame was ready I set up a small paint station to hit it with the rust reformer:

Then I moved on to the frame rails which is where the trans mount shown earlier attaches to:

This is what the interior looks like now:

While all that was drying, we decided to clean out the trunk (because it's going to get primed also):

Remove the tail lights:

And the headlight mounts:

The hood I ordered is made out of fiberglass and deletes those headlight openings:

As you can probably tell by the picture of the mounts, this was a pretty big weight savings without even counting the light itself.

Next, we remove the brake/clutch master cylinders and move the lines away from the body (body shop request):

An etch the motor mount with their locations:

That's all for the work part of the update...

Now onto Some PARTS!

Koyo 37mm Aluminum Radiator:

Big brake kit:

Shown are:

1.8L upgrade rotors
Stainless braided brake lines:
A Planet Miata Sponge (not JDM at all)
1.8L caliper brackets and clips
Hawk Blue brake pads (front & rear)

The hood, front lip, and Hondata IMG should be arriving in the next two weeks and the baffled oil pan in the next 3 weeks.

Thanks for tuning in =)

Hey, I just ordered a Koyo radiator for my car too . Did you know to get the radiator cap? I was told by the vender (Modacar) that the OEM cap will not fit.

I suggest that you wait. I'll get mine in on Friday and will check to make sure that the vender speaks the truth.

Day 8 - Arms, Balls. Joints, and Lube....

The day begins with putting the beautiful transmission mount back on the car so we can remove the jack from under it:

The rails:

Next, we prep the trunk and the roll cage's rear downbars for primer:

Some primer action where the pass throughs to the trunk are (note the authentic painter costume):

While all of that fun stuff is going on, I attack the front right suspension assembly:

Note the cracked ball joint boots:

Cleaning up the hub assembly:

The A arms on this side were in pretty good shape so only minor painting was required. To remove the bushings and replace them with the SuperPro Polyurethane bushings, we employed the use of an Autozone Ball Joint Press:

The old:

The new:

Pressing in the new bushings:

Replacing one of the damaged ball joint boots:

This is what's left of the old one:

Pressing the new one in:

Old VS. New:

Reassembly of the arms to the subframe:

You'll notice that we didn't connect the steering tie rod, we're waiting on a new boot for that to come in (Friday). Also, the brakes are not on because we don't want them getting overspray at the body shop.

But speaking of brakes....

Here are the old brakes, the only thing being reused is the caliper. The caliper brackets, rotors, clips, and pads all get tossed and upgraded:

Once that was done, we started on the front left assembly:

And tonight, I leave you with a few shots of our reconditioned trunk...
