The wastegate has a 5lb spring in it, along with an electronic boost controller mapped by the AEM. The tune we have on it now was designed to run time trial in NASA and maintain an 8.7:1 power to weight ratio. At 2250lbs we need about 260whp so we have the map such that the turbo is at full boost until the motor hits about 260whp (which happens at about 5500rpm) and then we start trailing the boost down to redline (9000) in order to flatline at 260whp.

The problem with doing this is that the 38mm wastegate has LOTS of exhaust to bypass from 6000-9000 and creates a lot of heat. This combined with the fact that I'm running Spec Miata now means that we're retuning the car to just be a track day car rather than to abide by a ruleset. So, the car will basically be tuned to where the turbo is comfortable, which is probably between 300-330whp.
