There is a company that puts Integra Type R into an Elise, Sun International i believe. From what I remember, the car hauls ass and is extremely LOUD. But i am sure its a good loud
There is also a car in Japan fron Signal Auto that is a Del Sol with a NSX motor in the trunk. Atleast thats what I think the set up is. That car is only a drag car though.

Take an old Lotus or Fiat x19. Super quick rotation, absolute killer in autocross, but with the low polar moment of inertia you are gone for good on the road if you lose it. The good side is that in the wet you spin like a Waring blender, fun if you don't crash.

The thing to remember about the S2000 is that for what it intends to be, it's pretty close to perfect. When you say MR S2000 you are essentially talking a completely different car. The passenger compartment would be moved forward, the steering totally different, the engine probably transverse ahead of the rear wheels, but behind the cockpit, fuel tank at the front. Even the chassis would be entirely different. It would have absolutely no resemblance to the current car.
Now, MR cars have some serious practicle downsides. I test drove the Elise in '97 and loved it but it was $AUD75K and you'd have to have another car for practicle purposes. I then looked at the MGF, which has essentially the same drive train as the Elise but a more conventional chassis and more creature comforts. A huge compromise. Then the S2000 came out. Similar performance to the original Elise, but much more practicle.
Personally I'd love to see a S2000 Type R with aluminium suspension components (maybe even chassis) and even more rudimentary interior. However I wouldn't buy one as I need a road/track car, not a track/road car.

Over here in the UK - Blink Motorsport put Civic engines in Elises and an S2000 engine in a Westfield.
I've seen the Westie in action (project nutter as it was called) and it is super quick - weights about half an S2000 so double the power to weight.
The Elise has had excellent reviews, many who drive it say that vtec is the engine the Elise should and possibly would have had all along if Lotus hadn't have been contractually tied to Rover.

100mph 9.5secs
120mph 14secs
130mph 17secs
140mph 22secs
150mph 27secs
