Post Might purchase an ap2 soon and have a few question

Hello

I currently own a e46 325ci and have been thinking about making the switch back to Honda. My first car was a 5th gen prelude which i LOVED and the BMW doesn't seem to do it for me. I've had my eye on the s2k since it came out but the insurance has always been so high for it. Now that I'm 24 my insurance dropped significantly and I'm thinking about purchasing a used 2004 Black soft top.

Before I buy I wanted everyone's opinion on whether I will be happy with this car as a daily driver. I commute around 30miles to work each way in mixed traffic. I live in Maryland so it doesn't snow too much each year but we do get it.

The car currently has 30k miles and looks to be in good condition. Aside from the daily driver issue is there anything i should look out for before making the purchase? The owner says it's had no problems except something went wrong with the top and dealership fixed it. Should I be worried about this at all?

Please give me any advise or tips you may have. Any help is welcomed!

Thanks

I just bought a used 04 as my DD and couldn't be happier. It's fine for the daily grind, just as long as you aren't expecting a cushy ride. It is very comfortable, but tight. You are in Md, I really recommend a set of winter tires.

Go test drive it in some traffic and see what you think. It's a bitch but so are all manuals when you are in stop and go traffic.

The irritation pales in comparison to the excitement you'll feel when you have opportunities to open her up a little. I seriously take curvy exit and entrance ramps for no other reason than fun. This past week I spent about an hour going back and forth on a twisty 10 mile section of freshly paved road in NC.

Search about the top issues people have had. There are numerous threads with pictures of the issue.

Just buy it and accept that you might have to live with a bit of regret when in traffic. The other times will more than make up for it.

If you have driven this car and you like it, buy it. I have had mine since 11/03 and have no issues other than fluids and filters and normal maintenence. i have 36,000 miles on it, it is my second car, but it sees daily use.

this is perhaps the most satisfying car I have ever owned and I have had over 20 cars.

The S can be a little bit of a hassle in stop and go trafic or gridlock where you move 3 feet every 3 minutes, but I love it. Until the S, I had never driven a car that was as much fun.

Definitely set money aside for winter tires...assuming you don't have existing/dormant back problems, and you have some winter tire treads, you'll be good to go.

I live in PA. With my first S2000, I got caught driving home in a snow "storm" - i.e. about 2" of 32-degree snow/sleet mix on the road, with my stock Potenzas, and had to pull off and ditch the car in some random person's driveway while my friend in his barely-running explorer came and saved my ass. talk about tail-between-the-legs. The car was undriveable.

You shouldn't drive on any stock S2000 tires in temps below 40*.. summer tires not good for winter.. in snow, forget about it.
