Default Mileage Reporting errors?

Looking at an s2k but there a couple weird things on the carfax and autocheck.

How common is it for there to be errors in reporting the mileage?

It's really effed up with you take a car in for service, and they don't check the miles on the car and put some random number in like 100,000 miles without even checking. Knowing a car dealer, i know he has had to get these fixed and it usually is not very easy. All because some lazy tech or service writer didn't want to go look at the exact miles on the car.

It happens more often, on car with digital gauges that don't light up unless the key is in.

I dont get why it so hard for Techs to do it? Takes like 1 second

I know when i was a tech at Toyota if we didn't put down the correct mileage we got written up.
