Default A Minor Set Back to the Turbo Install

So Friday after work, after waiting over 2 months to get all my parts together, I head over to my buds house to start the turbo/clutch/exhaust install on MY05 S in his shop. Shortly after arriving he suggests we head into town to get some food and he has a road he wants me to check out on the way. Can anyone see where this is going yet?? So we take off from his house and start heading up the hill, I start out mellow, then he starts calling out the corners like a navigator in a ralley car, well, that gets my blood going and soon I'm heel/toeing it through the twistys. It's slightly wet, I've got 285 BFG KDW's in back w/some 225's up front and it's hooking up enough for 8/10+ speed (mine anyway). About 2 miles into it, he's calling out a hard uphill left, I shift down come through the inside and just passed the apex, as I'm getting back on the throttle the road flattened out, my rear end didn't like that and it shifted right, I corrected it back but it swung too much, at that point I knew it probably wasn't going to end well. The last correction I attempted put it into a spin, the rear going right (the car going left) across the road which I exited at about a 130 deg angle, down an embankment. I'm not sure if it was better to go over the bank or slam the cut-bank (moslty a ditch but then a bank) on the uphill side. Didn't matter at that point, it was all over.

It happened relativley slowly, neither one of us even felt an impact, airbags didn't deploy, thank someone for that. We called his wife who took us back to his place to get the tractor, flopped it back over, the strap popped off and it rolled a little further down the hill. Here's a shot looking back up about a minute after we got out. . Now imagine 12' 7" and 430 lbs of mid 40's "dude" climbing out of this . Fortunately the window still worked so I rolled it down and pushed the door open with my feet and we climbed out. The only injury I got was from the extracion when a branch scratched my forehead He is fine also. The only straight body parts are the bumpers and the trunk deck. The worst is the windsheild frame . When we got it on the road, I started it up, it didn't even sputter though the head/intake drank quite a bit of oil, it was running out the hood a little. No gas spilled at all, just that little bit of oil. Didn't drive to good due to the fenders in the tires but i only pulled it up the road about 100 feet. It's on a trailer in the shop that the goods were to be installed in waiting for a visit from the adjuster. Kind of a bummer, hadn't been able to drive it much this winter due to weather and me not wanting to mess it up and have been looking forward to the upgrades for some time.
Oh well, it's one of those things. My wife has even gotten over it , the guy I was with and I seem to do this sort of thing on a semi irregular basis, we ride dirt bikes together and have had the pleasure of accomponying each other to the ER over the years. It's looking like I've got a lot of Carbon Fiber in my future can't wait to get v2 on the road, hopefully by summer. Thanks for listening, just thought I'd share.

Damn dude! Glad you're ok It looks like it should have been MUCH worse. I can't believe the worst injury was a scrape to your forehead Good luck getting everything straightened out.

Yeah, pretty quick. I've had the back end come out before, there's a thresh hold that until you approach your o.k. Once you hit that "spot" driver control becomes minimul or non existant. It'll happen on any car you just have to get to know that "sopt" and learn to react accordingly.

I think due to my "dirt riding" I've experienced more crashes than most folks will, plus I've always been an edgy driver though usually manage to keep the cars on the road. When I get in a "situation" anymore time just slows way down and I can recall almost everything that happens or is said during that time. I remember when I was younger saying "man, I don't know what happened" quite a bit. I think anyone can say the same thing with similar experience. Only thing I was thinking when I realized it was out of my hands was that the timing couldn't have been worse. Within an hour we would have had the tranny out and things would have been soooo much different. Like I told my bud at least it happened before we spent the weekend working on it and if it did happened, more than likely it was going to happen eventually anyway so might as well get it out of the way now and say I've learned something and move on.

Sorry to hear it. Some days I kind of wish there was VSA to tell me I'm being an idiot...
