150 bux to pull the head? That is a screaming deal, 150 is usually the reate for pulling the valve cover. Maybe I need to move.

Well im 18, and i dont have the money right now. I really dont want to tell my dad because he would be royally pissed. Do you think it would be ok to wait o say two weeks until i had the money to have it checked? I do have a wrangler that I could drive if need be until then.

I'd drive the wrangler then until you have the cash. sure you could be "wasting" your money, but wouldn't you rather know for sure, rather than make a gamble that could cost you several thousand? I would.

I'm not too knowledgable about engines but from what I heard, if the valves are going to drop toward the pistons, you would hear valve to piston contact. So if you hear something funny from your engine, you know you need to get it fixed.

Why pull the head? You can check the retainers with a flashlight after pulling only the rocker cover. While the cover is off, check the valve clearances, then run a compression check if you think there may be a bent valve. Why pull the head?

The problem here is that the F20C can stretch or crack the valve spring retainers during an over-rev, and that often doesn't show up as a problem until much later, when the retainer comes loose and the valve stays open until the piston hits it and breaks the head off. This can happen MONTHS after the over rev that damaged the retainers.

If in doubt it only takes a few minutes to pull the rocker cover and inspect the retainers.

by the time they hit the pistons, it's already too late. what we're talking about here are cracked retainers, which essentially hold the valves in place. with a cracked retainer, a valve could slowly work its way lower and lower. and you'd NEVER know. you'd never hear a single thing, until suddenly, the valve contacts the piston, and you're looking for a new engine.
