Default Modifications and Warranty

I know this is a pretty broad scope question, but what mods will void my warranty. I bought an extended warranty if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
TJ

THis is a massive topic of debate that goes in in lots and lots of threads. Search may give you more detailed info.

However, the general concesus seems to be that Honda is a PITA for getting ANY warrentee work done. They like to claim abuse or driver error. Moding the car in virtually any way will only give them an excuse to deny your claim. Even if it's unrelated. For example, if you put in a Cold air intake, the dealer may hassle you for anyting relating to the engine or driveline.

Basically it seems that Honda will drag it's feet on every warentee repair, hoping you will eventually give up. YMMV. I was going to remain stock through the warantee peroid. I have since done some things that are pretty easily reverasable (like CAI.) I keep telling myself to wait until the warantee is over to get a supercharger. Then I see the Group Buy going on and it's tempting!

I normally get an extended warantee, but for me this is a second car. With as low of mileage as I put on, I don't expect that the extended warrantee would do me any good. If it's your daily driver, I would reccomend staying COMPLETELY stock, just to keep Honda from making excuses.

there's a law that basically said they can't refuse a claim unless the mod is related...like they can't refuse a claim on the suspension if you installed an intake since it's too unrelated...forgot what the law is called...however, that said, they can still give you a lot of hassle....

Thanks, I've been reading some post I found and the main thing is... they give you a hard time. Since the car is my daily driver I'll leave it alone. After all, it's beautiful and quick just the way it is. How bout bigger wheels and tires?

Here is a simple way to make sure you car is still under warranty. Have Honda do the mods. Ask if they will consider it as part of the warranty if they do the work. I was successful with this thru Acura and my CL-S, but I bought the mods and the installation thru them. I paid a little more, but how do you put a dollar sign on that kind of insurance? Good luck! -Ken

Even with bigger wheels they could deny claims on the diff and tranny, even the engine.

I have a remote starter on my truck. Chevy gave me the run around on a transmission issue because the remote starter was throwing a "No Key in Ignition" code every time I used it. When the car was delivered to me it was about 1 1/2 quarts low on tranny fluid. When the tranny stopped working properly I checked the fluid and added some. Trying to get them to inspect for dammage was impossible. They just wanted to talk about the damn remote start

Speedr, interesting idea. That would work. Wondering how much they would charge to install a super charger??? I'll look into it. Thanks!

Ruex, that's crazy! I never realized dealers were so finicky with warranties. Thanks for the help.

You are thinking of the Magnuson-Moss warranty act.
