Default mods = void warranty = not!

I keep seeing this coming up over and over, will this mod 'void my warranty'? Well there is a federal law that prevents a dealer (or manufacturer) to void a warranty because of a mod, UNLESS THEY CAN PROVE THAT MOD CAUSED THE PROBLEM. Its on them to prove that.

This law is called The Moss Magnuson Warranty Act. Some links with more details are below.

Now, if you have mods, its just going to raise suspicion when there is an issue. They are going to assumme you drove the car hard, so they are going to be more likely to blame your driving for anything that breaks. So be prepared for that. But don't let a dealer or anyone else tell you a specific mod 'voids your warranty', it doesn't work that way.

Its possible a particular mod could void a specific warranty claim, but no mod can wholesale void your warranty. Its always on a case-by-case basis where they have to prove a specific mod casued the specific issue you are trying to claim under warranty.

The law protects you, but only if you know your rights. Be preparred to have to force the dealer to obey this law. But once you let them know you know your rights, you will get more respect. But be smart about it, treat them with respect even when they aren't doing the same with you. If it gets escalated to higher reps at Honda, or goes to court, you will look way better if you were the reasonable one.
