Default More timing chain tensioner problems!

Hello all,

I'm trying to find a cost effective way to fix my timing chain tensioner issues. Like many others, I am now on my 2nd tensioner. It lasted for a few thousand miles, but is now back to making the same nasty sound. During my searching I found a few posts that looked helpful, such as getting the worm gear inside sandblasted was supposed to fix it. Does anyone sell sandblasted tensioners? Was this ever found to actually fix it for good?

I got lucky with my first one and Honda Care paid for it even though I was slightly over the 100k mile warranty. I don't think they are going to pay for a new timing chain and guides if that's what it comes to (those are some the fixes I found while searching).

Anyone able to help? I'm tired of my car sounding like a beater!

I didn't sandblast my wormgear, but I did hit it all over with pretty heavy grit sandpaper and it's worked fine ever since.

Sandpaper? Interesting. For someone who does not have a lot of experience working on a car is there a DIY on doing this?

I suppose I could always order a new one, sandpaper it and have Honda install it.

Thanks for the responses!

you would have to entirely do it yourself. Honda wont install a part you've disassembled.

It takes 10 minutes tops to remove AND reinstall

The hardest part is reassembling the unit. Best if you have a second set of hands.

There is a thread in the Under The Hood forum talking about the TCT and what it looks like disassembled, i.e. the proper order to put the parts back in.
