Tonight I had the most dramatic launch ever in the stook. It wasn't the best but it was still cool

My wife and I were driving home from eating some sushi, she in her car and me in mine. We pulled up to a stoplight side by side and were goofing around. Then the light went green and she gunned it. Took me by surprise and I must say I was a bit embarrassed at being smoked off the line by a 2000 323i not to mention my wife at the wheel.

Anyway at the next light she was behind another car but I was in front. To show off and attempt to regain some of my pride, I dropped the clutch at ~6K when the light went green. It wasn't a race I just wanted to grandstand

Dang! I lit up the rear wheels in a big cloud of blue smoke! The rear end slid to the right about three feet (1m) and I sat there motionless for a good two-three seconds until I let up a bit and got some traction. Terrible launch but a lot of fun

Sushi will do that to you Launching at 6K in wet condition is even more fun but no smoke though.

You shouldn't have lifted, C3... I launch the car from 7500, and as soon as the tires break loose I floor it. It squirms around a little bit like you described, but if you stay on the gas it lunges forward like it was shot out of a cannon. The traction is back before the shift to 2nd, which happens like a normal 1-2 shift. Try it sometime! It's addictive!

Now where did C3 say that smoke was coming from?

Right on though C3, as Jason says just keep flooring it and it sounds like you would have had an under 6 secs launch.

In Texas that's what we use to bait our hooks! Like Terry Bradshaw said to the sushi chef, " You forgot to cook this!"

Over the years, my wife and I have frequently met after work for one reason or another, and getting home invariably turns into a race. Many times we're on wide, multi-lane roads with very few cars (Mira Mesa or Miramar roads) and we've had stop light drags many times. We've kind of leap-frogged who has the fastest car. It used to be her '96 Maxima SE against my '88 Prelude (she would win), then against my GS-R (I would win), then the GS-R against her '99 Solara (she would win off the line). Now it's no contest for the S2000, naturally! I could be in trouble if I can convince her to get the M3 in a couple of years!
