MR2 or S2k?
I have a 93 mr2 with the jdm swapped and of course....turbo
the car was great and alot of fun to drive. I got rid of it since I did not want to have two bucket seat cars. The mr2 was definately quick out of the box. I just like the look of the S better and alreayd have a 91 240 as a project car. I would probably go with the mr2 if I were in your situation, not having a car payment and it is so easy and cheap to get more power out of that car. Either way good luck!

If you look at it this way, you could get an mr2 and a good beater or an s2000. I'd go witht he beater and mr2.
I'm actually contemplating selling my car as well since I never drive the thing, only my nostalgia is with the rps13 (89-93 240sx fastback). I also want to learn more about building and tuning, and since i have a comp car to get around in, I figure itd be a good time now. Furthermore, if I ever lose the comp car, I could always pick up a good beater, this way I get the best of all worlds.
But I must admit, it will be hard to let something as nice as the s2000 go, and the driving experience I know I will miss.

I want to let the S go too. But the market is miserable for a seller.
So, rather than give someone else a steal deal, I will just hang on to it as a garage ornament.
It will be cool in 10 years to have one. It seems that a couple of S cars get destroyed every week, so eventually demand will outpace supply.
I purchased a new '05 and have less than 4k miles on it now.
I don't get to drive it that often, but when I do, it is fun fun.

This car truly had snap oversteer so I would stay away from the '91 - '92s. You could update with the later rear subframe if you can find one.
i spun out on Twin Peaks because of the rear's sudden desire to kick out
and my n00bness. scary experience... but i got it under control enough to stop about a foot from the guardrail. made a lot of noise and a good amount of tiresmoke. had to haul a$$ out of there quick.
but i have to say... it was fun.
snap-oversteer is what made the MR2 fun
what program are you in in school? will you have time to tune the car / fix it if it breaks / etc? in my first 2 years i could spend time on it; in my last 2 years (ME major, working, dating, etc) i really didnt have the time or money to do anything but keep the car together.
i'd want to get a beater / bike / some supplement to the mr2 if that's the choice you make, as if you have luck like i had with my beaters in college, it'll break a few nights before a big test and you won't be able to get around. a beater gives you have the option of leaving it broken for a few days until school/work/etc lets you have a minute to play/fight with the car. IMO, having a broken 400whp car and needing it for transport is the quickest way to lose your passion for a while!
also, dates will probably prefer the S2000. if youre dating seriously, the flipside is that some girls will put on a show to get your car/money and care less about you.

i had a Mr2 and i just recently let it go because i couldn't afford to have two summer cars. I miss my MR2 sooo much. It was my baby for 4 years. Built the motor up to 400hp and suspension and body. It's a very different car that the S2000 even though the dimensions are very similar.
