Default Much heatwash without the airfilter top?

Couldnt be easier to remove the airbox top to make the induction noise roar. How bad would the heatwash be? I've not tried either but the airbox looks pretty restrictive for a performance motor??

Noise doesn't have anything to do with power. The airbox actually isn't that restrictive. If you want more sound cut out the divider in the box and on the lid. If you run it with the top off you'll be losing alot of power, even befre you add in the heatsoak. The airbox is designed to provide alot of midrange.

I understand that noise has nothing to do with power it is just that I have read a number of posts where people think that removing the airbox top is "the best thing ever".

While I understand their reasons from owning a number of slower old cars fitted with various induction kits, it does indeed give a different type of sound. I understand that this can also have a negative effect on performance due hotter air entering the filter than before. What other reasons are their for a lack of performance?

Surely less restrictions on airflow would increased response or power if heatwash wasnt an issue?

Negative, Maybe with a K&n fipk that doesn't use an airbox. However the airbox does increase midrange power because of its design. I'm pretty sure even with the hood open and cool air flowing, people have reported power loss on the dyno with the lid off the airbox.

I think the stock intake tube is a little over sized compared to what would be used if you we're only using an intake tube n filter.

You can drive around with the lid off and it won't do much that you'll notice in everyday driving. Try racing another S2000 with the top off to see the difference, but everyday, you won't notice the loss of power.
