I've looked everywhere, and everywhere I've looked it says that it requires a mugen thermostat with the switch. Is that true? Do I really need to purchase both of them? Or can I just get the switch?

you won't realize the benifits of one without the other- I had the switch first and then the thermo. Needless to say they will work without thier companion, but are better together. HTH
