All my friends around here know that I don't and won't race anyone ever on the street. I never claim to be fast. I'll go for a spirited drive when there are no other cars around and I don't have a passenger. Aside from that, I usually keep it within 20km/h of the speed limit.

You don't have to race, and like Poindexter was saying, it's just not worth it because of all the fines and penalties associated with it if you get caught. And that would almost be a best case scenario if you consider that you could crash your car and/or hurt/kill people.

I'm with Poindexter. If the other idiot kills someone or himself during the race, you get charged with it too.

If it's a stupid drag race I don't bother. Any idiot can go fast in a straight line.

I usually invite people like that out to our next autocross. There you can legally drive enthusiastically.

(Note that drag racing is for fast cars. Autocross is for fast drivers.)

Dumb post.

What's the point of it? We know all the answers, and if you don't you are retarded.

I was on my way home, about to turn into the neighborhood (maybe 1/4 of a mile ahead) when a heavily modified wrx raced next to me. immediately he began to harass me with his BOV repeatedly. I'm not sure what most of you would have done, but i did not downshift nor speed up. Especially coming home from work, im tired as hell. I gave him a look, turned back and continued driving casually. I reached my right turn and he also had a red light. I looked over and said "hey, nice car!" but he just looked at me unsatisfied and im not sure but i think i heard "pussy".... wtf?!

anyways, the remainder of the way of home i was thinking, just because i drive this car, am i almost obligated to street race? Even though im 18, i dont follow the stereotype; I rarely street race or drive like a maniac. I would much rather take the spirited driving to the tracks or autox (which i havnt..hopefully soon.)

so... what do you guys think? am i a... "pussy"?

(i didn't post this in the street encounters for obvious reasons.)
oOweEe, it takes courage to walk away from a challenge, but it is the wisest course of action when the challenge is stupid.

Some street racers are going to think you're a wimp, but that's just a reflection of their own intelligence. Consider the source, and don't worry about it. If you get a chance, ask them if they think they have what it takes for a real race; Then invite them to an autocross.

You need to watch more movies and start living your life 1/4 mile at a time.

I generally try to strike up a conversation (if the traffic and conditions permit). Usually all I have to do is acknowledge their existance and they'll start asking questions about my car. When and if I get a chance to work it in I usually throw out something like, "If you want to race, let's meet up at Renolds or Cordele. Let's get serious." (I grin when I say it so it seems more like an invitation than a challenge.)

If nothing else you can wave and say "Hi, nice car," or something to let them know that you've not a tight-ass. Nobody likes to be ignored when they're trying to get your attention. Ignoring someone (anyone) is likely to be inflamatory.

Racing is life.
Everything else is just waiting.

It always happens to me on the Interstate, so the opportunity to be nice isn't there.

What stirkes me as funny is when I had my S2000 in closer-to-stock form it happened almost everyday. As soon as the hardtop and Mugen hood went on it never happened again.

Same with the M3. When it was stock, everybody and their mother. As soon as I lowered it and put the wheels on, nobody.

When I'm test driving a Cayman (been doing it almost daily ) people try to race. New car, not broken-in, dealer tag........don't ask me what these guys are thinking ........maybe they think it isn't my car, so I'm going to get crazy. We'll see what happens when I have my tags on one
