Default My Brother doesn't like the S2K

Hey I'm new to the s2ki forum and i do not own an s2000 but hopefully i will own one in the future, possibly next year after winter.
Anyways me and my brother have grown up with cars everywhere, and personally i've been obsessed with the s2000 since i've known about it, (05-06 round there) and i've always wanted to get one. In April i'm getting my full drivers license and the same day i want to buy a ap1 s2000, because it has been my dream car since i've basically known bout it i just love it.
But that's not it my Bigger brother basically doesn't want me to get one because he thinks its a horrid car to drive and it is so dangerous, how it is just an overall awe full car and he didn't like it that much until lately i've been prooving him wrong with this website showing him how nice you can make the car and how powerful this car be and especially how sexy this car can be. His starting to kinda like the car but he still doesn't want to me to get it because he thinks 15 grand would be a waste for a car like this, My brother knows a lot about cars and i'm still trying to convince him bout buying it, if you guys can leave me any points that i can convince him with would be awesome.
Thanks guys!

Is your brother paying for it? If it is your money, why do you need his approval?

I'm paying for it i just want to convince him that the s2000 is an amazing car, cuz if i convince my brother then i convince my dad/mom because my brother is the "smart" person of the family and if i convince my parents then i can get the car with no problem or questions.

have you priced out insurance cost on a car like that, something tells me a young driver + Honda S2000 = expensive insurance costs. Other than that it is a fine car IMO. Your brother may be right to some extent, in the wrong and inexperienced hands an ap1 can be dangerous in some driving situations, it's too long to get into it on this post but needless to say the car can bite you if you know nothing about vehicle dynamics. I wouldn't want my son driving my ap1 as his first car, as much as I love driving it myself. For relatively low dough you get a lot of vehicle with the S2000 in terms of chassis and engine engineering, the car is very well built.

your brother is kinda right. 16-17 years olds with a ap1 is just waiting for a accident... snap over steer is a new world if you dont know how to correct it. the car has a limit and you have a limit. driving past one of those limits will result in a accident.

i got the s2000 and didnt know this. i had bald tires and i surpassed my limit and had a accident. i was lucky tho.... little damage to the car and i was perfectly fine.

but if you drive knowing this you will be fine.

but if your brother knows a lot about a car, he will know the potential of any s2000. the s2000 is not meant for straight lines, but it keeps up or beats many v8 and imports. the s2000 with a good driver will beat most imports and muscle cars. And if you turbo the s.. there wont be much people that can say "i beat you hahahaha"

Honestly it just sounds to me like he's looking out for you. I would never support getting an S2000 for someone your age. It's not that they're "dangerous," it's that 16 year olds don't have much driving experience. Teenagers already feel invincible (I'm sure you'll say you don't, but you'll understand what I mean in a decade), and the S2000 tends to build confidence. Once you hit the limits of the vehicle, you need the experience (which you don't have) to keep it from being wrapped around a pole.

I wanted one when I was around your age and quite frankly I'm glad I couldn't afford one. I would have surely wrecked it. If you DO get one, take it to some autocross events and get some experience. Don't drive it like all the other people your age would drive it...

Start with a Miata, drive that for a couple years, then consider an S2000. Maybe an older 240 if you can find one that isn't modded. You need to get rwd experience before you step into an S2000 imo.
