My engine BLEW OFF today!!
I wasnt talking about the specific wear of rod bolts, I was talking about the overall risk period of a lot of things failing when you bounce of the rev limiter every shift....I was never saying you cant go up there and shouldnt be able to all the time in a car like this, all I was saying was that it couldnt actually be GOOD like you were making it sound....

It's not rocket science and if you think a Honda dealer cannot screw up this simple process I can provide you evidence of a dealership putting in one less quart of oil in my car - I was lucky I checked the oil when I got home or....
just for the record, r2d2, when I was talking about all that rev limiter stuff, I wasnt necessarily talking about your case directly.... If you broke a rod or had a main bearing failure then it sounds like a defect to me, all I was trying to say was if you make a habit out of touching the rev limiter you are asking for trouble.....
also, r2d2, did they say theyd give you the specific diagnosis on what failed etc? see if you could find out if there was any scoring in that cylinder and if your engine was number 1025386 or greater or less or whatever, if you ask them for the number they will know where to find it.....
perhaps you will get lucky. a subaru owner in northeast ohio purchased one of the Momo edition WRXs last year. while doing some "spirited" driving the engine "threw a rod" and oil and steam went everywhere.
when the customer confronted the service dept. at the dealership, the dealership handed the case over to Subaru of America.
Subaru of America was very gracious. They relplaced the entire vehicle. It was brought to his home on a flatbed once it was ready. The VP of operations for Subaru of America even made a follow-up phone call to the customer a couple of weeks following delivery.

and also subaru doesnt seem to mind the fact that people push their car to the limits or mod them, whereas honda will look for any reason to void a warranty. My friend went in for some warranty work on his wrx and they saw all his cats removed, boost controller, exhaust etc and they said "nice mods!" honda doesnt have to put up with that so they will not, subaru finds that it is better to replace a handful of motors due to people pushing the car and keep a good name while they are on the uprise.....
r2d2, any new updates on what failed etc? I dont think the oil jet bolts would have had anything to do with your failure, but it would be interesting to know whether or not you had the old oil jet bolts or the new ones, they have been covering this in barrys short block replacement thread for a few years so they would probably be curious to see if you had the old or new ones....most dealerships wont even know what you are talking about, you just have to find out the engine number....
