As far as the reason of the failure - nobody knows yet. Definitely not over revving and definitely not the oil.
Congratulations...it's nice to know I'm not the only one out here who had a good experience with Honda re engine replacement. Most of the stories have not had a happy ending, at least the ones posted on this site.

how come it seems whenever it is driver error honda is quick to jump and say 'OVER REV OVER REV OVER REV' but when it is an actual defect then they are quick to take the block and never reveal what went wrong....... congrats anyhow on getting it covered r2, msperky, what happened with yours and why did you need a replacement?

does anyone know if r2d2 would have already had the updated spark plugs in his car being an 02'? if not did you get them done r2? people have had cases of the old plugs backing out or getting debris into one of the cylinders....

Woohoo!

It's the good experiences like this that I point people to when they wonder if they should get an S2000 or not because they've heard of engine failures...

Good for you and good for American Honda Motors!

Like, I've said before,AHM has been great for most but not all of the engine failures. However, the very few where they haven't cause the anxiety shown in this thread.

barry, do you think this one could have been cause of the oil jet bolts which you have been covering? I seem to think not because it was cylinder1 and probably may not have happened so drastically, I think there was a defect with his....

r2d2 glad it worked out.

i have a good honda dealer too...sat down with them and went over all my mods prior to having them done...they do all my regular maintenance and they have the best price mounted and balanced on so2's too. First class service all the way...when my car comes in the shop...the sales people bring clients back and show it to them...

it's too bad some people have trouble...my honda experiences from boat motors cars and even pressure washers has been nothing but pleasant.
