Hello guys, i just bought a 2000 Ap1 with 117k miles clean title. All stock non modified even has owners manual as well as spare key. I got it for $9500 how did i do? Paint is not perfect but im thinking of getting it resprayed
Sounds like really good deal as long as it is mechanically sound and well maintained. Tell us more.
It is mechanically sound however the rear passenger shock needs to be replaced from what i hear, i looked at the car fax it has a lot of service records on there which is great and the engine is quiet as can be. I do not think i am going to do anything to the engine i might leave it all original
It is hard to imagine this being a bad buy at that price. How does the other side of the car look, what about the engine bay? What condition is the top in? Clean underside? Clean title? Honestly unless there is a major flaw somewhere and the driver-side door is all you have to worry about, this car looks solid based on the single photo.
I always consider AP1's in this particular color combination to be the rolling definition of the definitive S2000 look. Note that you'll probably want to change out all of the fluids: engine, transmission, differential, brakes, clutch and coolant just to know where you stand with all of those things. Any idea of the production date of the tires?

The top is in good condition i would say, no leaks tears or rips however i did notice the plastic window looks a little faded. The other side of the car is fine as well, i plan to give it a full service soon to be sure of everything.

I think you'll find my thread of some help. Feel free to reach out to me about respraying the car. I recently just had my front and rear bumper resprayed and they turned out quite good. However, you should, expect the newly repainted panel to not completely match the rest of the car. You can't match 20 year of paint wear. But, you can come VERY close if you have a good paint shop.
Before going any farther I'd check compression, leak down, and pull an oil sample and see what it looks like. These engines are essentially non-rebuildable so if problems are noted I'd pass the car along and not spend any money on it. The early cars go thru a lot of oil. Honda service bulletin recommends checking the engine oil level every fuel fill. Expect to replace a lot of engine oil! Honda noted 1000 miles/quart is "normal" for the early cars.
I'd not spend any money repainting this car. Certainly do as much restoration as you want/need. It's a 20 year old sports car, not a museum piece or objet d'art you'll be trailering to Pebble Beach.
Performance wise tires are the paramount item. Extreme performance summer tires (or at least Max performance). There are nice reproduction AP2V1 17" wheels available that will allow a wider choice of tires and add a surprising refresh to the car's styling. They just bolt on with no alterations. (You can sometimes pickup OE wheels here but the reproductions are inexpensive and well regarded.)
