Full throttle (WOT) is a must.

Another point. You won't feel the increase in acceleration unless you punch it through the VTEC transition. Slow, controlled acceleration through 6000 RPM feels no different.

If you're not going to push it all the way to the red then you might as well go trade it in for an Insight.

haha be nice..

i remember when i first broke in my Prelude. i was VERY unsure of taking the car up that high. the first time i slowly let it rev passed 5700RPM (VTEC X-over on 5th gens), and i didn't feel a thing. but then i had a sudden and violent sneeze and my foot slammed on the gas. the car took it to red faster than i could finish cover my mouth. i was in scared/amazed. i took it to a freeway entrance ramp... revved it up to 5000RPM in 2nd... then PUNCHED it like no tomorrow. i tested it on the same spot with my Civic hybrid when i finished the motor swap as well..

that's how i will test VTEC on my S when it breaks in as well.. same road.. same spot.. brings back good memories.. it has become the spot where my garage buddies and i test out new mods after we isntall em...kind of like a tradition

VTEC becomes most effective above 7000 rpm. Take it to 9000 in 1st or 2nd gear and you should notice it. If not get an SC or Turbo and I promise you...

Yup, aside from the 3 bars on the temp gauge, and enough oil pressure (check your oil regularly), if you mash the gas pedal (esp in first/second gear), you will feel the VTEC kick in th 6500-7000rpm range.

VTEC is not turbo, you will not and should not feel any "massive power surge." the important thing is its fast.

That kinda depends on what gear you're in.
