The V1 is pretty well shielded.

That is correct.

He then looks up at me briefly and then back at the gun. By that time I was just adjacent to him and we both looked each other in the eye. Luckily for me he didn't try to come after me.

I would start to drive erratically manage to get the car to the side of the road within earshot of the officer, stumble out of the car clawing at my eyes screaming "I'm blind!! I'm blind!! WTF!!!"

Make that damn CHP think twice about what he's doing.

Actually, I wonder if you can sue them for retina damage. They are shining a laser at you, and they can have the beam cross your field of vision.

All lasers are required to contain a warning not to look into the beam (I think that's a federal warning). All it takes as a few lawsuits to get the laser menace off of the roads.

Before I get flamed for promoting frivolous lawsuits, or condoning dangerous driving habits, I believe in deterrents as much as enforcement. There's no damn good reason for anything more than X-band radar for law enforcement. Anything else is a money grab. Radar detectors are a reminder to slow down.

After all, traffic cops are out there for our safety, right? Not for revenue generation, they would never do that.

I totaly agree that a radar detector is for a speed reminder.

I was hit with a laser gun 12 times on Friday night. My RMR went off several times before the officer was "locked in" it went off but not enough time to really react. It turns on as soon as the gun is triggered and then off and then back on solid once the laser has my speed locked. I had 2 officers get behind me, because they saw the detector, they would turn their radar off and on and my detector would light up, off and on, they did this for several miles, while riding my ass and trying to get me to speed up. ASSHOLES. I really wish I would have had a jammer/blocker on friday, that would have really thrown those bastards.

As far as X and K/KA the detector picks those up 2-3 miles out. Tonight a friend of mine was test driving my car with the silencer out of the JIC single full ti exh. and he said the detector was going off with a steady beep, beep, beep, he said he couldn't see the officer until he drove a few more blocks down and sitting at a cross light was a cop.

You guys make me laugh. Welcome to Virginia where radar detectors are illegal. How this has stood the test of time eludes me.
