Default My poor AP1 burned to the ground

So this last Sunday while I was out of town enjoying a wonderful weekend of Nascar at Talladega speedway, my Ap1 burned to the ground. By dad was out enjoying it for the weekend and just pulled back into our subdivision and was only 3 houses away from home when it lit up. Thick black smoke started rolling out the vents and he instantly stopped and ran for my extinguisher in the trunk. none the less 5 lbs of dry chem fire retardant wasn't enough to save my car. He said he got out and flames were rolling out from the rear near the fuel tank and also through the grill in the engine bay. Two simultaneous fire and one little extinguisher!!...there was no saving her. It is so melted now that me and several master mechanics have gone over it and cannot figure out the cause. Of course i had full insurance so hopefully be able to do a little upgrade and move into an AP2. On a better note. this car was NA at the moment and my custom turbo kit with a goal of 600hp is still in the garage. was planning on putting it on this month actually so that is a huge sigh of relief that i didn't loose everything.

I had on it:

Oem hardtop

Staggered RPF1's

Tein flex coilovers

didnt put up any pictures of it with the hardtop but will try to find some.

Another somewhat comical note is that I am also a volunteer fireman that lives at a fire station. So naturally while I am out of town, all of my buddies get to have fun at my expense putting out my flaming s2k...ya so i didn't find out till I was walking out the grandstand when one of them called and said "hey i"m looking at your car right now and it f****** on fire!!. What do you say to that. Yeah not much you can do when your 2 hrs from home. anyways here are some pictures of before and after so lets all pay our respects to another s2k that has bit the dust...

I also have more pictures in my gallery.

Wow... I don't know what to say. My condolences. Hopefully you come out of this better off than you went in.

Wow that's awful, glad your father was in a place that allowed him to easily pull over and get out. Hope insurance comes through for you!

I see you are going for the "Rat Rod" look.

On a serious note it's good you have full coverage and the turbo kit not yet installed.

That's craziness! I've rarely seen that happen on NA S2000s. Did you have any custom work like battery relocation done to it? I wonder what the root cause was? Spilled oil on the header?
