man, you are right, down to the bones.
they are some people that don't know automobliles and put down the S without driven one or know how the top end feel like.
one of my collegue, try to talk me out of purchasing an S and buy an BMW. obvioiusly he own a bmw e36 m3. i've ask him question he could not answer like, have you driver an S?, ever own a convertible? he just don't know the feeling. i have driven one for a week and got hook and now i'm waiting for delivery of my S in one month.
is there a reason you're so concerned what everyone else (particularly the uninformed) thinks of the s2k?
i could care less about the opinion of people i don't know or don't respect. what i find is that those who really know cars respect the s2000 and their drivers. i was parked at fry's electronics in palo alto a while back next to a gorgeous '02 911 turbo. while i was loading up to leave, the owner came back and said "great car." to which i replied, of course, "thanks, yours isn't too shabby either!!!" this led to an interesting discussion of the relative merits of front and rear engines, rwd and awd, and naturally aspirated motors vs. forced induction.
the point being, that those who know cars respect honda for it's engineering prowess, and respect the s2k as a brilliantly executed piece of machinery.

Why do you care what others think. You bought it for you. There must have been something special about the car that made you own one. Foolish people and jealous people always find something negative to say. I own 2 classic Z cars and when the S came along I was amazed that Honda had created such a beatiful car. I admired it so much and read about all the fantistic things that Honda had put into the car and told wife I want one. She said get it and I did. I don't see anything thats more beautiful than my S. But I always say, to each his own. That's why there are so many different cars out there. We all have different tastes. The S is for us guys and to hell with the others and there opinions You know what they say about opinions don't you!

Wow.
I have to say that I am surprised. I was expecting to get flamed horribly for my post, but I must admit somewhat embarrassingly that you guys and gals really came through. I appreciate your kind and encouraging words.
I really only want to reply to one thing that has been said so far; a lot of the replies say things like "So what if people don't give you the respect, who cares?"
To this I say bunk. We all want respect, no matter how much we wish to believe that it doesn't matter to us. I've worked very hard to afford, and did a lot of research in order to make an informed decision on the purchase of my S, and my frustration when fellow drivers don't acknowledge that doesn't come from my own insecurities as some of you have suggested, but from a simple frustration with the ignorance and downright hate and insolence that is place upon this car when viewed by the general public.
I would really love to believe that some you really don't care what other people think, but I don't. It's a basic human need to gain approval from your fellow man or woman, and since this is a board where we discuss our S2000, the target of this respect is thus.
I have the most respect for the few of you who admitted that you feel the same way that I do. Good for you. Join me in spending the rest of your days as S2000 owners educating those who are ignorant of it's graces.
Thanks again,
-Vincent

The car that Mr Senna was driving was a Mclaren Honda. Honda Honda was years back (1960s) in F1 racing but it was the only company from Japan competing with the European car companies.

This is meant as a comment, not a flame, please read it in that way.
I have said, as have many of the other people who have responded to your excellent post, that I have found that most of the people who say, "It's only a Honda" are those who don't know and/or understand sportscars. I have also said that I don't care. My question to you is why should I care about what anyone who doesn't understand my car and refuses to understand the point and purpose of my car thinks of it. I have nothing to prove to them, and if I were to try, it would only be a waste of time.
I have also said, as have others, that my experience with people who do own and/or understand sportscars has been much different. My experience with people who own or understand sportscars, regardless of the brand that they own, has been very pleasant. There tends to be a sense of mutual respect and admiration. Of course, each one of us insists that our car is the better one, we bought it because we felt that way, but there is also the acknowledgement that the other car is a fine car too. These are the opinions that I care about. These are the opinions of people who understand the subject that they are talking about.
I don't understand why you think that this is "bunk". Many of us have been around long enough to realize that we have nothing to prove to anyone but ourselves, and the only admiration we want is from those who understand what they are looking at. Admiration from those who don't understand is shallow and meaningless anyway.
You are never going to respected by everyone. In some circles you won't get respect unless you are driving a lowered Escalade with the Gold package and a million watt stereo. Other circles you won't get respect unless you are driving A GM EV-1 or a Hybrid.
The best you can hope for is the respect of YOUR peers.
What you are hoping for is respect from the uninformed masses who only know Porsche, BMW and Ferrari. Those same people probably would dismiss a McLaren F-1 (the best sports car in the world btw) as "not as good" as the aforementioned brands. Why does the lack of respect from these people bother you?
Honda has always been the engineering marvel for the masses. While Ferdinand Porsche, Enzo Ferrari and Soichiro Honda were all contemporaries, in business for about the same amount of time and swore by their racing programs only Honda used their expertise to build well engineered cars THAT THE ORDINARY GUY COULD AFFORD. That makes it a sort of a "Blue Collar" company. Like many blue collar people who make good and enter high society there will always be those who don't respect them for not being "Old Money". The fact that in almost any product catagory they make they are generally regarded as the best should tell you something. The fact that Honda dominated CART when Porsche ran away with their tail between their legs (Alfa Romeo also) should tell you something. It is not that Honda can't match Porsche and Ferrari in the stratasphere of automobile design, Honda has the resources and talent to do whatever they want. It just doesn't fit their business model. Honda in the same 50 odd years as Porsche and Ferrari has become a giant in the industry, the largest engine manufacturer in the world in fact. Porsche and Ferrari can only dream of Honda's succsess.
That is Honda's greatest strength. Let's face it almost any competent auto manufacturer can build a great car for a LOT of money. It takes true engineering greatness to build a great car for a reasonable amount of money.

Also, I believe in the history of automobiles, the S will shine as a breakthrough of technology. Years from now, true car buffs will admire the car for what it proved to the world.
