Originally posted by tgojoe Very well stated! I am 56 years old and have had a number of great vehicles but feel that the S 2000 is special. It is the most agile and responsive vehicle I have ever owned, also the sexiest. Many of my neighbors make me feel uncomfortable when they praise the beauty of my ride. I love other exotic vehicles but unfortunately can't afford them. I am happy that I found the S 2000 to satisfy my desire for a fast, reliable and classy road rocket.

This is slightly off the subject. I'm usually not partial to red cars, but your S looks magnificent in the photo.

We all want respect, no matter how much we wish to believe that it doesn't matter to us.
As a 41-yr-old retired military intelligence specialist, respect was a word that from day one at boot camp, became a daily fabric of my existence for two decades. I think, during your gatherings with others who have slighted your choice of automobile, you actually wanted admiration, not respect and feel slighted that your choice for a sportscar wasn't "admired" by the naysayers. How sincere is any respect if it's based on your purchasing power? Respect is EARNED, not handed out from the masses based solely on material ownership...that would simply be admiration. I admire those who have the financial stability to purchase a Zonda but any respect given to them certainly wouldn't be based on their automobile. My sailors of which I led into harm's way never based their respect for me on the type of car which brought me to the pier each morning.
I would really love to believe that some of you really don't care what other people think, but I don't.
If you don't care what I think, why would you care what OTHERS think?
It's a basic human need to gain approval from your fellow man or woman
Exactly. But approval and respect are two different words. I disagreed with many an order from a superior officer but I respected their authority and carried it out. On another note my girl thinks a Lamborghini and Zonda, not to mention most other exotics, resemble nothing more than rolling metallic insects but would that prevent me from the joy of discovering I was Pagani's long, lost son? I may grant you that many humans seek out approval from others, but few do so with a key fob in hand.
I have the most respect for the few of you who admitted that you feel the same way that I do.
By using the word "admitted" you are, in a very disingenuous way, saying the rest of us who disagree with you are somehow in a state of denial. Believe it or not, there are actually a great many men and women on the planet who have no need to cast their cars out to the public in some deep water search for approval. I would have bought this car had I lived on a deserted island (albeit with a nice paved road through the island mountain!) and I wouldn't have been upset if the natives had snickered, "it's only a Honda."
To paraphrase my own thoughts, "at 9,000 rpm's, you won't hear them loathing."
1. THE CAR. Respect for THE CAR. Not for how much it costs, not for it's pretty rear end. But for the performance it has already earned in countless car magazines and by car enthusiasts. Respect for THE CAR by EVERYONE is what I crave. Again, for THE CAR. NOT for ME.
2. It's not that I don't CARE what you think. It's that I don't BELIEVE that you think the way you say you do. That is my right, no?
3. Again. Respect for THE CAR. Not for ME.
4. For third time. Respect for THE CAR not for myself.

I have the most respect for the few of you who admitted that you feel the same way that I do. Good for you. Join me in spending the rest of your days as S2000 owners educating those who are ignorant of it's graces.
So we're all liars? We all went out of our way to reply to this topic by lying? Well, I guess it's your right to believe that. I have nothing to prove to you, just as I have nothing to prove to anyone who disses my Honda. I love my car no matter what others think. I even go out of my way to tell people "It's just an economy-car Honda."
In the meantime, keep telling yourself we're all lying to you.

[B]My S2000. One year later. Below are some observations I have made over the past year of ownership. This post is not intended to be anything other than my opinion. Post replies at will, but I will not respond to flames. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and a lot of you probably won't. That's fine. I just thought you would be interested in my
Nice summary, enjoyed reading it. One question, did you buy the car to boost your ego? I get the recognition effect all the time. Good thing I bought the car for my own enjoyment and not to impress! Otherwise would have bought a boxster.
hey... wow.. the post.. I only agree with you on some stuff... about the uneducated mass. Always got to educated those people out there. =) To tell you the truth... I am only a little kid right now..... and people here are right.... about the so called "respect" man, I wouldn't get me a boxster... that car isn't just for me.. and about those old timers... those people are everywhere... YOU BOUGHT THE CAR BECAUSE YOU LIKED IT NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE!!! Just like how people are telling me, don't get a s2000 get a supra instead you be really quick, yeah they are right... but I driven both cars. Even though the supra is still a more powerful, the s2k is more fun to drive (that is just how I feel). I will still get a s2k, because I just believe that car is really incredible. just my thoughts.....
I drive an S2000 because I love the car, but If the car was manufactured by Toyota, Alfa Romeo, or another company, I wouldn't care. Am I proud that I drive a Honda? NO WAY!!
I am aware of and respect Honda's racing tradition, and the tremendous strides that Honda has made in the areas of automotive and motorcycle R&D, and I appreciate the company's reputation for building reliable cars and bikes, but...
First of all, Honda puts the "H" emblems on the car because it's free advertising. I believe that the S2000 is a good car for the price, however, I don't think Honda gave me a good enough deal to the point where I feel like promoting their company. I have already shaved off the "H" emblems, and the "S2000" emblems, and the wheel and steering wheel "H"s will go soon, as well.
My problem with the Honda Company is developed through my own personal experiences. As a matter of fact, every Honda dealership that I have dealt with has tried to rip me off big time. In addition, ALMOST ALL OF THE POSTS THAT I HAVE READ ON THIS WEBSITE ARE NEGATIVE WITH REGARDS TO HONDA'S SALES AND SERVICE.
Why would I be proud of a company that lied to me by telling me that "all dealers are charging $10,000 over MSRP for the S2000." That is just one of MANY negative experiences that I have had with Honda, and I have NO positive ones to speak of. When I bought my S2000, the dealership tried to jack me around so bad, I told the finance manager that I was going to choke him until his eyeballs popped out! Fortunately, they stopped trying to rip me off at that point.
