Here's my latest work-around. At least, this shouldn't cause four bars on the coolant temp gauge. However, hot sun might cause it to fall onto the dash and scratch the dash. It meets Wyoming's requirements to be visible. I hope all Wyoming law enforcement officers see it that way.

For the curious, here's a link to my album with my previous two compromises too.

Why not drill speed holes in the plate and put it back where it was. Or does comprimising the integrity of the plate matter?

Ever thought of putting it where the Japanese people do covering one fake air duct.

That or BYS has a angled plate you can put on. Makes it look better than the stock POS!

Doc,

I think I would go back to #2 until you can actually determine that it caused the four bars. I put the front plate in the storage folder behind the passenger seat - no problems yet.

Hey doc, IMO, it is very tacky. I would rather install the front plate than put it there if I have to choose.

That's illegal in CA. My friends put their plates visible through the windshield and appearantly still get tickets for no front plates. SUCKS in CA

I might do just that IF I still get four bars with it removed. I'm going to try to make it do four bars with no obstruction except Smokin's Grill the next chance I get.

Thanks for all the comments. I agree it is more tacky than #1 or #2. However, it CAN'T cause four bars and I think the worst I'd get from law enforcement is a warning. I've got an unmutilated new plate ready to be picked up any time I want to if I get hassled for chopping this one down.

If I get questioned about the chopping, I'm just going to say I did it to save weight to get a better zero to sixty time.

Barry:

It looks horrible where it is now! Isn't obstructing the field of vision illegal as well?

What about putting it back on the grille, but cutting out most of the black bits (like the numbers and the horseman)? The numbers and letters will still be black-ish (color of your grill) and should provide enough contrast, but you take away a lot of obstruction area.

Barry -- something caught my eye in this picture. What are those two buttons immediately behind your drink holder? (I am having my seats converted to add heating elements, and was thinking of where I could mount some switches...)

Also, notice the cover of your drink holder is lighter than the surrounding plastic? Is this by design or did it fade?
