OMG, you guys are good!

Well, I removed it. I kept imagining the sticky, tacky stuff failing and the plate falling and cutting the dash!

Yeah, maybe drilling out the black areas. In the mean time, I'll store it in the webbed seat pocket behind the passenger seat.

Barry,

I have my front plate installed in the opening close to where your #2 is, except that I don't have the after market grill. I used two 1x6 inch strap hinges, with the 6 inch side holding the plate and the 1 inch side on the inside of the stock grill. At speeds >15mph or so, the plate flips up toward the radiator. It won't go more than a 45 degree angled because it hits the condenser, but it works. I've never seen more than three bars, and better yet I've never been stopped!

It is readable from the front. There is some obstruction from being behind the grill, but it is legible.

So the hardtop installation removes the pocket?

B-Man my friend...your killing me! One more post like that and your heading to riceboys.com. Did you get a ticket for no front plate? Your plate in front of the intake made it run hot. The Japanese have leaned to "side mount it.....

Barry, just my opinion, but if it's gonna take that to get your front plate on, you'd be better off leaving it in the trunk.

Barry, The plate in the window does look funny. I take it you went this route because the car was running hot with the plate in the grill? Can anyone confirm if this will actually cause the car to run hotter?

I just ordered a new black grill and was going attach my plate just like you did before. I thought that looked very tasteful. I really liked the way you trimmed down the plate. How did you do it to make it so even? I hate the front plate in the intended area but have pulled over already for not having one on.

I did it the easy way. I paid a metal fabricator to do it. There's a metal company here in town that makes everything from bell yolks to cattle guards for pickup trucks to custom hand rails. They've got a zillion machines at their shop. They used some huge guillotine thing to do it for me and then they rounded the corners and drilled new holes. I paid about $10 for the work.

I wish I did know about the cooling. I will find out this summer because I plan to replicate the situation where I last overheated both with and without the plate on the grill.
