Thats a very hot deal. If you paid that much OTD, then they sold you the new 05 for what, $27k?
my mistake....what I meant to say was 29,663 + t/t/l....not OTD. Didn't mean to confuse so many. But hey, I thought it was a great deal and that includes des. charge.... oh, "yellowkawi" is referring to my 2002 yellow kawasaki zx6r that I had, but sold it last year.

Invoice meaning what? They make that shit up. Invoice is not what the dealer pays for the car, it's what you pay for the car! It sits somewhere between actual dealer cost and MSRP.
It is claimed to be the invoice price the dealer pays for the car and in fact that's true, that is the price on the invoice. What's not on the invoice are the discounts and dealer incentives the dealer gets which lower that price by a substantial margin.

MSRP: sticker price $33665
Invoice: what the dealer pays for the car $30335
Invoice - Holdback: the true overall dealer cost $30335 - ($0 to $1000 or so)
Dealer gets the "holdback" when they sell the car. It usually starts out on the high end, and then gradually drops the longer the car is on the lot. It's an incentive to make the dealer sell right away and keep volume up.
Small dealers normally go down to invoice as a minimum. Larger dealers can sell below invoice and count on the holdback for profit if they sell a lot of cars. So-called "volume" dealers work this way.
Now, when a car is on the lot for a long time, the dealer can actually lose money. Most dealers get their vehicles on credit, and it costs them to sit on the lot. So that's when they get desperate and cut really good deals. I think this is fairly rare for Honda.
Additional manufacturer incentives can knock any or all of these prices down. We normally only know about the amount knocked off the MSRP, if it exists, but Edmunds will often list the dealer incentives that can help you negotiate.

I paid $47K OTD, lucky me
I'm now potentially in the market for an 05 S2000 and have gotten a few quotes of $30,300. YellowKawi, you got a pretty good deal! Congrats btw, red looks great on the 05.

The good ole days of S2K super high mark ups!
I paid MSRP for a 2001 Spa in May of 01' (and that was a good deal). They initially quoted me $36,000 and it took a lot to get down to MSRP.

Well, I came back to the dealership today to pick up my front bumper plugs and I talked to the salesguy who sold me the car and I ask him straight up about selling below invoice especially for a car that will sell "itself". He told me that the manufacturer gives the dealer an incentive for selling the car within 60 days of arrival and if after 60 days the incentive is no longer available. The car came in on July 28 and I bought it August 3 (6 days later). I did not even haggle the price. I had actually dealt with another dealer online and use their price to call this dealership. I told him if he could sell me one lower than I will buy it today. NOt only did he sell it to me at a lower price, but my rate was lower too...So, all in all, this was a great deal to me. And yes, I love the car!!!!!!! Can't wait til the 601 miles.............................
