Default NA upgrades for AP2

I have an '04 S2K. Looking to do I/H/E upgrades, what price range am I looking for all three? I did some searching but most I've see has been for AP1 and I thougth some different combinations may be better for the AP2.

What is the difference in AEM CAI vs K&N FIPK 2?

Doing all three what would be the best Header and dual Exhaust to go with?

Is there anyone in the NoVA area that can do the installs?

What would be the next steps for NA upgrades from here? Something ike VAFC, Throttle body??? How much more are these?

Thank you,

I read through the FI forum, how about a NA forum?

The AP1 and 2 will be the same in terms of modifications. The best is any standard CAI for intake. For header, there are high end power headers and midrange ones. If you want midrange, go for mugen or rick's. If you want top end, go for J's or Amuse. As for exhaust, dual exhausts don't really make any extra power worth noting, if any. If you're going to spend 600-1000 dollars, wouldn't you want to go with one that actually makes power? The three best exhausts for our car are all single outlet exhausts with 70mm piping. They are T1R, J's, and Amuse.

Look for an AP1 bumper and ZTEC single exhaust cap so you won't have the empty hole where the old 2nd muffler was.

The AEM 'style' of intakes (there are many many brands) relocate the filter down in the front bumper, on the passenger side. The FIPK is a short ram intake with it's own 'airbox' that closes it off under the hood. It's hard to explain, use yahoo advanced search and restrict it to www.s2ki.com for all your searching needs. The one provided on this site is very iffy.

This is also a topic for S2000 talk. I'm sure a moderator will move it soon

Well I'd like to keep the look of the dual exhaust and understand the cost vs no power gain.

So keeping the exhaust system, going the route of header and intake.
AEM style vs K&N FIPK style, any significant difference in gains? I would think the CAI type would be best. How about Installation, do it yourself?

What about PRM vs FIPK?

With the intake mod, which header would be best? Costs?? I'm thinking this is going to be about $500 for the header and $200 for an intake. What would be the next step from here? Should I be replacing the exhaust, full cat-back if I am doing the header?

Thank you.

The difference in intakes is negligible. I like the CAI style (aem) because it's like driving around on a cold morning all the time. You get better throttle responce and the car seems to be quicker. I've never tried or seen the FIPK though.

I've been promoting the max speed/simota intake lately, as I really like mine. I got it for 100 on ebay so try a search on it. Their filter outflows AEM and K&N filters according to their bench flow tests.

I'd prepare to spend more than 500 on a header. The ones under this price are not as good as the stock one. Look into Rick's if you want a good header for a good price.

If I were you, I'd get the CAI I mentioned, the Rick's header(~650-725), a test pipe (several available for 100 dollars in group buy section, or make a post in want to buy), and a tuned VAFC controller(200-300). Should be good for 15-20 horsepower or so in the midrange. I'd just keep your stock exhaust if your concerned with price. The stock exhaust is already pretty good.

I have the Fipk... love it
On my last car I had a AEM CAI and it suxed water 1 time

So for 200-225 off ebay go with FIPK and you will not have to worry about water on rainy days and a puddle going down the road... 57-3514

Exhaust mods just cos $$.. exhaust sys will give you some nice sound... 3-5 hp? and Ricks header is the only way to go $1000 +/-

Apexi Vafc-2 and Frog harness with Dyno tuning can give you a couple Hp

If you want power.... just save 3-4K on a used S/C of 5-7k new with Gears and clutch

I've had a lot more recommendations for the AEM V2 over the K&N FIPK.

Pros cons, why the one over the other? I read something about a throttle delay due to the longer piping of the AEM.

thankyou.
