Just received my hood today. But I have a lil problem with it....
There seems to be a small misweave in the carbon fiber. Looks like its been pushed up. Here are some pics to show you what it looks like, and to get a feel on what the size of it is. My question is.... should I return this hood?
All you guys with the J's hoods, are yours perfect? I'm not sure if this is normal... never had a cf hood before... Thanks!
My hood has some of the same weaves, sending it back may result in a 30+ day wait for shipping and 30 days back to you (depending on company purchased from)
Carbon fiber sometimes is hard to lay right, and the hood is really on big piece of carbon.
Well, you can't catch it right away, but it is noticeable. I just wanted to see if anyone elses hoods have the same type of misweave. I'm leaning more on just keeping it, because I don't want to deal with the hassle of shipping it or driving it back to him. I know its an expensive hood, but if you're telling me that you have the same kind of weave, then I might as well keep it. The one sitting at his shop has a misweave on it too, just in a different spot.
Tim, the misweave on your hood, is it almost the same size? Or is it smaller?
I will snap a pic of it later today when I get my car back (in shop for new kit)
Mine also came damaged on the pointed ends but was repaired and a solid blk line was painted in on the top. (keep from shipping hassle) other than that I'm happy with it.
Ooh, this is a tough call.
I know how disappointing this can be when you wait so long to finally get one.
I had a similar type of problem when I got the Mugen hood.
Although my Mugen hood didn't look like yours with mis-weave, mine looked like there was a line going across the entire hood due to the pattern disruption.
I had a plan to paint the hood anyway so this was not a problem, but I know that you are probably not going to paint it and this can really be problem to you if you are type of guy who wants nothing less than pristine condition.
Where did you purchase the hood from?
I am sure you are going to contact the dealer and inquire about what you should do or what they can do for you in this situation.
I know it would be a pain to return this and wait for another one, but that is probably what I would do. It is frustrating but you will be glad that you did what needs to be done.
You don't want to regret keeping it after while and you can't do anything about it and also in case you need to sell it later on, you may have problem getting back the investment.
But then again, it doesn't look that bad.
Shipping back something like this will cost you pretty pennies and it is a big hassle.
So this is really a tough call. I hope you make the right decision.
Man, I am sorry that you have to go through this. I hope it works out well for you. I would love to check out what you are planning on doing other stuff on your car.
I purchased the hood from Racing Craft. Yasu is really a cool guy. I talked with him about the hood, and he said most of them come like that. He has one in his shop, and it has the same misweave on it. Just in a different location. I believe Yasu... he said most of the hoods come with some kind of misweave on it, just in different locations. He said theres no really "perfect hood".
He is willing to swap it out with me... I just want to say that Yasu has GREAT customer service. He was willing to drive the hood down to me. From NY to MD. But I felt bad, so I said its cool. So we agreed that if I decide to swap, I would drive up there with the hood on my car. I have to go visit some relatives in NJ anyhow, and his shop is like 30 mins from there.
I think I'm going to keep the hood. Its not THAT noticeable, only if you look at the hood closely. Besides, I want to put it on the car NOW!!!
