Default Need Help from the Audiophiles

I am going to upgrade my speakers using Lucid products and would like some input from those that know audio well. I would like to retain the stock head unit and replace the door speakers and add rear speakers.

My *main* goal is to be able to hear my music at 70 mph with the top down. I listen to a lot of techo and trance music so there is a lot of bass.

And yes, I did search but didn't find anything as specific as what I am asking.

TIA for your help.

You really should think about adding an amplifier. At the very least you need to buy very efficient speakers (92 db or above), perhaps Focals. The kind of music you listen to requires alot of amplifier power and you are going to get high distortion (and possibly speaker damage) if you just use the stock hu.

if it were me and the OEM head had to be used -- I would:
a.) use Infinity Kappas in the doors with foam baffles
b.) Lucid high end two or three way Kenwoods for the rear
(the Kappas will produce the bass for you)-baffle them too
c.) add a four channel amp -- as to which one for this purpose, ask someone at Lucid or a shop that has S2000 experience ....I have not added an outboard amp yet.

now that I've said that --- I'm not sure what will work "well" with the top down at 70MPH .... you are competing against a LOT of wind noise.

And yes I am an audiophile -- my home system cost would buy more than five fully loaded S2000 Hondas.

Doh! Can I come over? j/k

I think with the type of music he's listening to, he would be well advised to add a sub as well.

As for hearing it at 70 MPH, that can be arranged - I can hear mine loud and clear at over 100 MPH top down.

In my opinion, you can't have a really good audio system without ditching the stock head unit.

My advice is to change the head unit, change the front speakers, get a amp and a 4 channel amp to power everything. If you get the right components, you probably wouldn't even need to get rear speakers from Lucid, since it wouldn't make too much of a difference anyway.

You don't really need to change the head unit. You will need two separate amps. One 100/2 amp at 4 ohmz to power the front two speakers and one 250/1 amp at 4 omz to power the sub woffer. You can get a subwoffer to fit under the seat of your car from Clairon. It will be coming out in about 2 months and will cost about $400. I would also suggest that you buy 6.5 speakers with separate tweeters for better highs. They can install the tweeters in the same place that the 2002 S2000 has them installed.
