Need help buying S2000
Hello, I'm currently looking to buy a used S2k, (can't afford new one yet
, plus my dealer is asking 5k over sticker
), so I'm looking at MY2000-2001... maybe 2002, but most likely can't find/afford one
anyways... I found a few I like... my questions are:
Anything specific I need to watchout for? any defects that are a problem with S2ks?
Any clues or "red-flags" as to the abuse the car took u guys can recommend?
I heard that clutch may be an issue with these cars... is that true, if so how bad?
Also, one car I found was a trade-in in a VW dealer, and it's a 2k with 30k miles on it, they are asking 22995 for it (4 days ago was 23995), how would I go about getting the "certified pre-owned" title for it? or is it even possible?
When I decide I'm buying the car I will get it up on a lift and have it inspected... so I would also like to know if there is anything I should watch out for underneath, as I will be there with my mechanic?
thnx in advance!!!"
PS, was readying this thread about ppl not knowing what it is... it's true around people who don't know cars, my experience was that when ever I mentioned and people did know the name, I would say "the Honda Roadster..." and I have never gotten any negative remarks!!! people would always say "Nice!!!

23K for a used model year 2000 with 30k miles on it seems a bit steep if you consider that NEW ones are going for 30k, sometimes even 29k!
It might be better for you to wait until this fall/winter, by then prices will surely go down (spring is the worst time to buy a convertible, prices go up).
5K over sticker is totally unrealistic. Yes, even in California. (Maybe in april 2001, but not now, C'mon)
Be patient and I'm sure you'll get a better deal.
Cheers,
Daniel

if you have the money you should go for an 02. They fixed a few thing, including a glass rear window, improved tranny so there is no grind between the one-two shift, aluminum around the rear tail lights and a few others.
With all these new cars (evo8, wrx sti, rx-8, 350z, neon srt-4), you can always use that competition to your advantage in negotiating with the dealer, even though you may not even have any likes for them.
That 2000 S2000 with 30k miles is about the right ballpark price, assuming its in excellent condition. Normally tires give away how hard its been driven, but seeing how you're buying from a dealer, they won't know that info. From what the owners on this board say, 30k miles is probably prone to 3 sets of tires. Anything drastically higher may indicate lots of tracking.

Here is a thread, I found this simply by typing in grind, there are plenty more. Some people have had no problem at all, although others have and have had it fixed under warranty I'm pretty sure the warranty covers it. I haven't heard of any failure and nothing regarding the SC, although I hear the SC will eat away at your clutch.
