Default Need help with deciding on car

I have only posted here a couple of times but check the site daily. I am obsessed with the s2000. It beats the other car I was interested in , the mr2 spyder.

I have found an s2000 that is a 2000 with 50,000 miles on it. I saw it a month ago on the car lot and liked except the soft top was dead. The top had a lot of wear on it and the plastic window had a cut in it that was taped up. After seeing that I said forget it and left. Never thought about it until I passed by the car today and pulled in the dealership. The car had been cleaned up and the top was replaced with a new one. I also noticed it needs the taillight recall.

This changes my mind about the car and now I am very interested! They are asking 19,500 for the car and I was thinking I could talk them down even lower since it is sitting on the bmw lot and it has been there for over a month. What do you guys think? Also are the 2000 models as dependable compared to the later models?

Thanks

PT

I have a my00 and I'm happy. It passed the 30k mark with flying colors with no probs so I'm sure shes a winner. The wear top and window are all up to the owner to maintain it. If you do then shell look great if you take care of her which is what I do. Some early models had some call backs but your is at the 50k mark so it should be cool and probably taken care of.

I also got a certified honda by a well known dealer so I expected nothing but the best in mechanical condition etc and she shifts perfect and engine purrs no prob

If you got the chance go for it or you will regret it! Read the other happy new owners post!

19k sounds like a fair price for that many miles. s2ks here in the NW are a premium!! Honda Dealers were charging 20k for one with 90k miles!!

I personally think that price is a little too high for that mileage. I have an early VIN 2000 S200 and have not had any significant problems other than a permanent grin on my face from driving it. Shop around and don't fall in love with the first one you lay eyes on. It took me 6 months to find the car that was perfect for me.

Thanks for the quick response. I was also wondering about getting an extended warranty from honda. Is this possible since the car is out of warranty.

Thanks

The S2000 is a hell of a car for $19K, even with 50K on the clock. Plus it's got a new top. I'm sure if you don't jump on it someone else will.

Yep extended warranty is no prob after you buy, I bought it just for peace of mind like major repairs in case a cylinder or transmission or somethign crazy which costs 1k or more or something. You never know.

I think 50K miles is to much for a Honda warranty. I purchased a 2000 S2k from Car Max this year with 43K miles and Honda would not sell me a warranty. I settled for the Car Max 3 year warranty. I'm glad I did. My car has been in the shop for 2 weeks now. They are replacing the rear diferential and made repairs to the transmission.

See if the car lot you are buying the car from offers a warranty. I think it is a good idea with these cars to pay extra for some kind of warranty. You have know idea what type of driver had the car before you.

I am goinf to hold off on this one. After looking at the car closer it looked worn on the inside. Just looks like the previous owner was hard on it. I am going to wait till around the end of the year when a convertable will not sale as fast here and maybe I can get a better deal.

Thanks!
