LOL, well then.. besides the fact that you can 'afford' the car.. do you mean a down payment? I think with the down payment aside, you should make sure you still got a lot of money in hand just in case.. even though you'll have no living expenses if you lived at home.. if you have a job, what if your hours got cut mine had.. plus in my experience, almost everyone I knew with a manual car has so many problems

I would get the S if I were in your situation and knew positively that I could afford to pay/maintain it. The money you save now won't make much difference once you graduate college and get a decent paying job. Unless you have the discipline to invest the money now. It may not make much difference until much much later since you'll likely have job in only 2 years. Those 2 years wouldn't be worth it for me when the other option is to be a pimp (sort of) with a nice car while in college (and while still young!).

edit: just don't drive like an ass and destroy it

Sounds like you really want this car and will put in the required effort and sacrifices for it. If you won't be parking on campus overnight, I suppose theft and hit and run chances would be much lower for you, that's a plus.

Get yourself several good insurance quotes and make sure you always cary comp and collision...S2000's are WAY to prone to bad luck and you will drive it pretty quick on public roads so it's important.

thanks for telling me what I want to hear! lol...

But I'm still on the fence with this...

Based on your experiences, has the S2000 cost a lot in maintenance? How about insurance wise? My civic had a great engine like all other Hondas, but it had a lot of other minor problems that added up overtime. How expensive are the parts for the S2k?

I really want this car!!! more than I've ever wanted any other car. I ONLY want this car. I am willing to make lots of sacrifices (financial, time) for the S2000 because I know it will give me lots of happiness in return.

I DEFINITELY will drive careful and not be a show off with this car (most of the time) because everyone knows its fast so what's the point in proving it?

I've had my experiences with reckless driving (a kid actually was racing his S2000 down a big street in Philly near me and crashed and killed himself and his friend in the car) and I can honestly say I'm above that now. I am looking forward to taking great care of the S2000 and feeling like it's a part of me (if i get it!!)

Hey bro, I think that I was sort of in your shoes a couple months ago (I even posted a thread almost identical to this one). Alot of the responses to mine were similar to yours, but I neglected the advice, even though I knew it was financially good advice. I bought the S2000, granted I am a junior in college and live on campus. Granted I've only had it for two months, I think it is AWESOME. I realize that it's not a great financial choice to buy a pricey car while in college (depending on how much you're paying), but I think that it was well worth it. I keep telling myself "I don't know how I'm going to part with this car when I have to", but this really probably is due to the fact that I've only had it a couple months.

On the financial side of things, you can research most of the stuff, as I did, and a lot of people on the site are REALLY helpful. Realize that you can't rotate the tires on the car (depending on tread), and that the tires will wear quickly. The soft top is pretty expensive too if you get a slash in it, but if I were you and actually bought one, I would pay for a hardtop if I could afford it and get a car alarm system. There are probably a lot of other things that are much more expensive on this car than others, but I'm telling you what I know of. Research it. Make an excel spreadsheet of your finances (it helped me out), and compare the S2000 to other cars. Ultimately the decision is yours, but when I pulled all of the numbers together, I didn't think it was too bad.

In my opinion it was well worth the buy, but remember that I'm a really new owner. But I've never driven a car I liked so much...daily drives are sweet and any time someone asks for a ride I'm more than willing to take them, in my car that is. I always try to find excuses to take the car out....so if I were you, if I was financially set and ready to make a sacrifice and a well-informed decision to buy one, I would do it. But seriously man, make it a well informed decision and make sure you map out your finances and future plans. Take care man.
